Come meet the St. John's city council candidates running for the at-large seats "under the whale" tomorrow. They'll be serving up their visions for the city.
russellawilliams.bsky.social
There is an election about to start in this province - if you feel like you are being left behind, ask the candidates why they have no serious policy proposals to deal with this challenge.

Releasing today - the 2025 regional living wages. Our takeaway this year - too many people are working long hours for incomes that don't cover a conservative estimate of essential household expenses.

Wow immigrants are almost entirely hardworking members of the community and America would be worse off trying to deport them all? You’re telling me this now for the first time
helenkennedy.bsky.social
Via @acyn.bsky.social on Twitter - Trump says he's going to make an exception on deporting farm and hotel workers because farmers and hoteliers are mad that great people are being taken away. Watch for the way he dances around so he doesn't have to take any blame for this.

The NATO 2% goal has always been a shell game, but it is absolutely the lowest, of low hanging fruit, to fold the Coast Guard into the national defence budget (as other countries do) to substantially *increase defence spending. Maybe we could even fund effective SAR now?

Total provincial funding for eduction has gone up 61% since 2014 - its largely inflation. Funding to CNA has gone down. Funding to Memorial has gone down. Apparently inflation doesn't touch post secondary education.
russellawilliams.bsky.social
Just reposting this for all my Memorial University peeps wondering why they are being asked to get rid of more people.

It’s easy. This government has other priorities. It’s a choice.
russellawilliams.bsky.social
The government of Newfoundland and Labrador's transfer to Memorial University (not including the medical school) was $371 Million in 2014. 11 years later it is $313 Million. Just ignore inflation...

You have to quite the galaxy brain to tell people you have increased the budget.
russellawilliams.bsky.social
I was told by the government and MUN admin that the provincial budget was good news for education and the University(?) If anyone wonders why the University is dying it’s because this gov’t is confident no one can do math.
