At least he raised the quarter billion dollars to do it by taking personal bribes so that it wouldn't use public funds, and also has asked the people who work for him to wire a quarter billion dollars from the Treasury to his personal account.

You guys, the person exercising the powers of the presidency is constitutionally disqualified from holding the office and he’s having the White House bulldozed. This is true and it’s happening, right? I’m not dreaming this?
All the polling across an array of methodologies indicates that he retains ~40% public approval. That is his core base and it doesn’t seem like anything can break through with them. He seems to have lost the swing voters who swung for him last November, but his grip on the GOP remains solid.
FWIW I agree 100% with you that the message itself is bonkers
On mobile you just long-press the hyphen to get a selection of dashesβ€”not surprising for a newspaper editor to use them.
For anyone still trying to derive value from the hellsite: the algorithm is rewriting your brain and changing your sense of reality. It just is. Get off of there.
Just insane thing for a NYT editor to say publicly:
The American president is demolishing the eastern half of the White House to build a gigantic gilded ballroom while millions of government workers go unpaid during a cost of living crisis.

The politics should be *apocalyptic* for him but he really does seem immune to the laws of political physics.

New 'state of climate action' report gives you a much better picture than daily headlines about contextless solar panel or EV sales

- Most things are going in the right direction

- Most things are badly off track to the pace of change required

🧡 Across the world, democracy isn’t just under pressure, it’s facing epistemic collapse: a breakdown in the shared ability to know what’s true, to reason together and to hold power to account.

A new guest paper by @eliothiggins.bsky.social and @drnataliemartin.bsky.social explores how to fix it.
Verification, Deliberation, Accountability: A new framework for tackling epistemic collapse and renewing democracy

and I tossed my tiny garbage bag into the back of the garbage truck and it was every bit as thrilling as I hoped it would be. 2/2 #bucketlist
I was walking my dog today and holding a poo bag and we came up to a garbage truck and I asked the guy if I could toss in the poo bag and he offered to take it from me but I said I can toss it in and he said sure 1/2

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

β€œOur Lord is up there now, looking down on the world, thinking, the floods and the famine can wait, for there is a girl in Derry who needs me to magically alter the contents of an envelope.”
Humans can rationalize in both directions, from premises to a conclusion or from a conclusion to premises. When someone as prominent as Trump says crazy things, a common coping mechanism is to make it make sense, with the consequence that rationalizing the crazy serves to normalize it.
This interaction right here is why I'm not particularly hopeful
