Why Steam? Because they put their costumers and vendors first. They don't have shareholders. They keep a tight knit group of top talent. They don't enshittify.
Amazon locks their costumers in, they lock their vendors in, and they only pander to shareholders.

I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.

I was very apprehensive of Steam at the beginning. They wanted me to keep my games only digital? WTF?
Then they gave away Portal. So I signed up. Sure. Why not?
Then it was just convenient.
I hope it doesn't enshittify.
