Urban fantasy author of Nereid Unbound coming spring of '26. Getting my feet wet in Bluesky - but isn't that what Nereids are supposed to do?

This is from my #WIP book two of the Nerissa Morgen series. It's a nuanced scene where the main character is reconnecting with her Native American cultural roots over beadworking.

She picked up the long, slender needle, threaded the narrow eyelet, and began counting out beads according to the diagram. She expertly slipped the beads beneath the loom, using the finger of her other hand to lift them against the threads so that each bead lay in its own lane, and with the other hand she threaded the needle into the beads and over each thread, coaxing it through the narrow holes. The rhythm steadied her thoughts—in, out, pull tight—a language of motion older than words.

Wondering if I'm the only one that does this when #writing. I'll lay down to sleep, clearly focused on a scene that I'm struggling with, and fall asleep - revisiting it as I wake off & on during the night. By morning, my subconscious has written the scene. Anyone else do this?

Don't forget: Monday, October 13th is #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Help celebrate & honor Native Americans by spreading the word.

Side-note: The main character in my upcoming novel is part Choctaw, a people steeped in rich culture, so this really hits home for me.

Spent yesterday hanging with my friend who I haven't seen in 8 years. We stopped at Margarittaville for lunch and got treated to this sight.

Having one of those days where a chapter is clawing to get onto the page, but it's for later - possibly even book 3. Gonna have to write it down to get it out of my system so I can focus.

I keep a notebook by my bed at night to write down nocturnal ideas. Wrote this in pitch dark last night and it's legible! Still made sense to me this morning and to my ongojng plotline.

I hit on an explanation earlier today why magic users fly under the radar in my world. The wizard explained that some people can't handle the new reality and become fearful zealots. You know - destroy the things you don't understand. Magic users are the minority.

I've given this some thought. First, I don't think a wizard-detective would have studied that particular vein of magic; In my head, necromancy is rare, and they'd have to enlist the aid of someone that practices that particular brand of magic. Then it depends on how the victim was dispatched.

You're not alone! Took me a while to get it!!

Oh my! I'm currently working on book 2 & it takes place in October. Now I have lots to think about.

It would be the perfect opportunity for my MC to wear a super-sexy outfit that has the wizard-detective tripping over himself with their slow-burn romance... Muahaha

Classic Lil Red Riding Hood?

Writers! What would your characters dress up as for Halloween?

Vivvy (from Vaedhe) claims that dressing up is for kids, but secretly has a zombie costume she wishes she had the courage to wear.

Andrea (from the next book I'll put out) would happily dress as a spider.

We have the right to read what we want, no matter what politicians or school officials say.

Let us know what your favorite banned book is below. 📚

The last couple of days were pretty full and kept me away from the computer. Had a friend fly in from CA for a week. Haven't seen her in 8 years. Gonna be a busy week!

We must all stand together against book banning and protect free speech. Banning doesn't stop at one thing - it continues to grow until there is silence.

When I finally finished my first manuscript, I thought I would feel some sense of accomplishment or victory, but I didn't. Instead I dove into the editing part of it, working & reworking it for months. Now that it's ready to go to my editor—now I feel a sense of accomplishment. #writing

From an early age, I've always enjoyed reading. There's something magical in the way a well-written book can transport you to distant lands and into the lives of others. #Writing is a gift.

Books are like magic. They are thoughts made manifest. What is magic if not the power of thought made real?

As an emerging author living in Florida, this concerns me. They may not object to my book today, but what about tomorrow? Or the next day. No one should tell us what we can think, write or speak. We must always fight for Free Speech.

Proud of my local library for standing strong and not giving into the voices of dissent.

Just launched my author website and am now getting set-up in Bluesky. It's been a long journey, but well worth it. Book one of the Nerissa Morgen series launches in the spring and book two is already in the works. I hope you'll join me for the journey.
