Maybe I’m late to the party, but I just realized you can protect any app with Face ID on iOS by long pressing its icon and selecting “Require Face ID”. I wonder how long it’s been there without me noticing 🤔

TIL that the Kit Kat snack is pronounced “kitto katto” in Japanese. This sounds close to “kitto katsu”, meaning “you will surely win”, so people in Japan use to give kitkats to students before their exams as lucky charms. And I think it’s beautiful.

I believe you, but I really made the switch for a reason. Dealing with the quirks had become too annoying for me. And I speak as a heavy user of the terminal, it was not just about the aesthetics.

If, as a developer, you claim your bottleneck in productivity really is how fast your computer allows you to type words or to jiggle your windows around, then I don’t trust the soundness of your solutions.

Definitely. Mind, I love unix in the broad sense. I couldn’t work with anything else. It just happens there are…more polished unixes out there (albeit far more pricey ones).

Jokes aside, it surely got better over time. But we’re not there imho (yet?).
Plus, I have moved my whole life once across operating systems, I’m not looking forward to doing it again.

I used to! I’ve been a Linux user for many, many years, professionally and not (I was an Ops person in a past life). But I suffered death by 1000 paper cuts time and time again, so much so that I honestly don’t believe it’s a viable solution for me on the desktop. Still love it on servers, though!

In the first half of 2025 China’s new additions were more than twice the new capacity installed by the entire rest of the world this year. The #2 on the list, India, installed 24GW. The US at #3 installed 21GW. There is an order of magnitude difference. lovli.fyi/zWVS
