Thanks to @petergray47.bsky.social for doing the honours. This flyer says a little about the book and offers a 30% discount.

It was lovely to launch my book at the 35th Irish Conference of Historians on Friday, and be able to thank Maynooth History colleagues for helping to make it happen (the launch, but also the book itself!)

You would think - though 'God's house' is meant to be taken literally!

It deals with an earlier period than that story relates to, but of course it mentions abuse (specifically, exploitative labour practices) in Catholic institutions.

Also, I spoke to Olivia Frehill about the process of turning this long-standing project into a book here: open.spotify.com/episode/38Hc...

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, please consider asking your university librarian to order it, or asking your friends who are journal review editors if you can review it for them!

Have just received hard copies of my book from Cambridge UP. It's about the ordinary people who funded the Irish Catholic church between the end of the Famine and independence. It takes in social, economic, religious, emotions history and much else besides...

What might be found in 'the insides of history', the knotty details of a life that don't make it into the archives?

Joe Moran imagines the voice of his grandfather, questioning what histories might be lost and writing the histories left behind:

The Irish rail app usually notes delays though not sure how reliable it is early in the day. Think 7am is when the social media teams (X) for Irish rail/Translink/enterprise start posting so probably too late for you but maybe with the storm a-coming there'll be earlier updates.
