Yeah exactly, that subtle screech of the first notes in the bars, the interplay of the bow pressure against the intensity of the vibrato and where it's placed in the note, this is just the original recording lmfao.

Like this is by far the best one and it's only because everything after the 14 second mark lets the lead melodies just be orchestral instruments instead of turning them into an annoying airy synth like the Final Fantasy VII one.

This is the D'Angelo performance that I've never forgotten. This song was already a huge hit but the way he took it from contemporary R&B to church revival illustrated how connected those idioms are. A revelation for those who didn't know, and an affirmation for those who did.
