A library director in Wyoming who was fired two years ago because she refused to remove books with sexual content and LGBTQ themes from a library's children and young adult sections has just been awarded $700,000 in a settlement. t.co/EA5L1kOZfV

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Within Italy, individual historic city states are recognizing Palestine; I was there for the Florentine Republic recognizing it this September, announced from the Palazzo Vecchio. Powerful seeing the old granular polities still using their strength. Cities are REAL in a powerful way. (See Alt Text)
Photo of Florence’s historic Palazzo Vecchio, seat of the republic. You can see Michelangelo’s David standing in front of it. Gathered in front are people in the historic red & white livery of the city, and many men in the red T-shirts of the “Republic of 1530” the organization that runs our city Florence’s historic festivals, named for the last pre-ducal/conquest iteration of Florence’s republic. I wish I had a pic with the Mayor and the pro-Palestine banner they hung on the balcony but I don’t. I forget if the Archbishop was there in person or just some priests, but the solidarity was big. I think the Parte Guelfa was there too.

I grew up in Davis where we/our mayor became infamous for the toad tunnel so this feels strangely expected tbh

I cannot believe American politics is being dominated by a SECOND meme frog.

This zany two-frog country, man.

People say it has a steep learning curve and yeah I did some tutorials and fiddled around a bit, but I just stick to the basics and use it how I want, and it’s so effective.

And it’s super affordable as these things go. The most expensive part for me was getting an actual laptop rather than the $100 Chromebook I’d been using. Got it half off with a coupon code that people were always passing around. I think it’s $60 now but like BUY ONCE NO SUBSCRIPTION IS THIS HEAVEN

Scrivener. My writing life improved so much since I bought it. So much easier and more efficient to world-build, outline, write ideas down, and work on the story itself all in one single project.

you have never met a parent who will go to the mat for their kid faster than parents who have already had to fight the system to get their kid the support they're entitled to
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
I know Trump and his minions all have sneering contempt for kids with special needs, but trust me when I say that their parents will absolutely fucking destroy anyone who messes with the special education supports to which they are entitled by law.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

But I’m planned out for a couple weeks, all but caught up on grading for the quarter, and have three glorious days to dig in and outline PunchWIP, hell yes it’s pizza time🍕✨

also many things about her life and by extension mine are more challenging than they might be otherwise, but many things are great and I’ve never wished her different—that just feels very foreign to me. like, she just is who she is. I don’t want a different kid! I want the world to be better for her

I’m not autistic, just a parent to an autistic kid w/ fairly significant support needs, but I personally find it very frustrating to see so many people fixated on preventing, reducing, or “curing” autism and neurodiversity instead of talking about inclusion + getting folks whatever support they need

Reporter's notebook: I actually began working on this story shortly after footage of the incident showed up last month.

But by the time I finally got ahold of folks, the story grew: 2 *other* faith leaders I spoke with *also* reported being shot w/pepper balls while protesting this ICE facility.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.
