I think the Platner stuff is too consequential to ignore, but at the same time, Ariela has a point here: eyes on the prize. One consequential election is two weeks away, the other isn't for 8 months. We can be adults (or at least should be) and walk & chew gum simultaneously. Lets get some results.
this should be the maine topic from here on out. Maine has an election in 2 weeks that could hurt block disabled people from voting. Spread the word, tell Maine residents to vote NO on question 1.
Election Day is right around the corner, and Question 1 is on every Maine ballot. It would upend safe and secure absentee voting like this.

Vote NO on Question 1 to save absentee voting. Make a plan to vote, track your ballot, and more by visiting ACLUMaine.org/Vote.
yes i fell for it too, i was happy to see him give similar working class vibes to how it is in the rural areas i visited growing up, initially when his campaign started

but no, easy to swear this off.

and also a local ME race is critical in 2 weeks on a ballot measure
please please *please* don't let the genocide in gaza trick you into voting for someone who will absolutely betray you the minute they can. I fear since 2023 some people have used it as a means of sabotage and some aren't being wary enough to avoid shit like this
i feel duped. I seriously fell for this guy and hoped people like him would be the way forward for progressive working class action. But nope, that tattoo is impossible to defend, nuh-uh
"how do you expect to win back men when all men are assholes?"
Graham Platner to @daveweigel.bsky.social:
"How do you expect to win back men when you go back through somebody’s Reddit history and just pull it all out and say: ‘Oh, my God, this person has no right to ever be in politics?’"

DSCC Chair Gillibrand: “It’s up to the voters of Maine to decide.”
part of my lrg article goes into press culture as a whole (there's a reason that ties into LRG, you'll see) and how some of it is stupidly focused about maintaining access to stuff and how that's dumb and bad, and this is another example as to why
they could pay me infinite money, partner with chunsoft, fly me out to japan and kiss shinichiro tomie on the lips and i'd say no because screw that arms dealing dork
it's not last year when a normie could possibly walk into a GS and buy this without knowing any history of this guy's involvement

but now with it being sold online and with creators *openly aware of the circumstances*? Nah, don't support him. Period.
in semi related news before i go this was the fastest unsub i ever did and was very upset to see a retro content creator i liked just slobber over this guy because they wanted to be "Fair to him"

no he's a dork you don't have to get him any attention ever even if he gives your channel free shit
and actually no, not just decades, centuries

400 years

amandasmildtakes has been the biggest motivator for me this past year and she openly avoids this site because it's so god damn doomy politically and yeah she's right lol

but i do recommend you follow her on YT/insta/etc
i'm an imperfect person and i made fuck ups. But I turned myself around and am continuing to do so

lots of other fellow white people in america need to do so too and get involved locally, and not just until the current guy is out of office, ALWAYS
also learned this from my community:

POC and natives have been pushed back against in voting for decades and they never ever stopped being targeted.

and the first time most whites brush against that they shit themselves and want to give up? get a grip, get involved locally with your community
"b-b-but this organization said!!"

said horseshit and is openly collecting donations to get you to burn money on them

hey guess what they did meddle the same way they always did with voter roll purges and gerrymandering there's no master secret they pulld
also seeing a tiny subset of people from said coastal areas (mostly older) buying into the most blatant grift about last year's election being stolen (it wasnt) i've ever seen that because they can't dare to imagine the economy being the focus point of most normie swing voters, is dumb
me before being locally active: "wtf why do people dislike the bugs bunny florida gif that's the reality!!!"

me after: oh, yeah fuck that gif's mindset
more people in my town didn't vote or want to vote rather than voting for the guy in charge now, outside of a local person they did vote for due to outreach programs

they're all humans just wanting to live so yeah i'm gonna fucking stand up for them, go be smug elsewhere
also i hate to throw shade and i truly apologize to any mutuals in these states but there are way too many coastal people who are so used to shitting on red/purple states and thinking everyone in them should suffer and i *loathe* that as one now involved in a purple state community effort
i don't know if i'll one day end up giving into my demons. I really hope not. I'm gonna push back to the absolute end, though to ensure that doesn't happen. I'm so glad to have a community network now, it's helpful and literally touching grass has saved my life lol
you're a better ally for your friends if you're able to stay level headed

learning locally how some POC don't feel safe because they're used to white people bailing on them... I absolutely am understanding that now the more involved i get
i think i might break my usual SFG site protocol, and make a hyper in-depth article on the site/appblockers i use to control myself (and even then I'm not perfect! i have bad days! i fear deeply so many things! that's normal!) and try to inspire others to do the same
*especially* when it comes to minorities. Do you know how pissed i got after dear friends helped snap me out of a nearly-ending-my-life funk i had because i took articles assuming i'd be in a camp for being autistic as final fact

very pissed

it ain't over unless everyone gives in
i'm not saying don't worry, i'm saying don't worry to the point you curl in a ball or cry or you get incredibly distraught by poisoning. yourself with constant anxiety that paralyzes you

too many content creators/journalists still focus on ragebait even in these times, i hate that so much
like i'm not fucking kidding it's been *revealing* to me how i see people who go online, see bad news, wet themselves or whine about it without pledging to keep going out, stand up for their community, and vote in locals while building community to keep an eye on and do mutual aid for everyone
the more i'm involved locally even over just the past year i realize

-local communities matter

-local politics matter

-state election dynamics are different from local (thus candidates might need to be different)

-too many people online give up easily and just doompost
@findoutpodcast.bsky.social is a favorite of mine lately and i especially cheered when a week ago, they called out "activists" who just make vids repeating bad news but nothing else, and no call to local community work/action. Local elections matter. Boring community meetings matter. GO DO IT
