So what happened in April was the market ANTICIPATING the Bank of China selling Treasuries to prop up its currency once the yuan devaluation was done.

Historically, when the Yuan falls sharply, capital outflow pressures rise in China. To stabilize the Yuan, the PBoC often intervenes by selling US Treasuries from its reserves to buy back Yuan, directly leading to downward pressure on Treasury prices and higher yields. #EconSky

Robin Brooks: When Trump lifted US tariffs on China to 150% in April, China retaliated by starting to devalue the Yuan. That completely destabilized global markets and - most importantly - the US Treasury market. Trump ended up backing down. Key question now is if China does this again. #EconSky
