Recently, I had the immense pleasure to read an early copy of CALL AND RESPONSE by Christopher Caldwell, the newest collection from Neon Hemlock, and I absolutely adored it!! Ten stories in matched pairs, structural brilliance for a thrilling, magical, and deeply humane, this is a MUST READ!!

I loved Devastator. , although he was sort of janky to move (later combiners felt more sturdy) but yeah, it was weird to have Lamborghinis and Ferraris outsize a cement mixer and a dump truck. Fortress Maximus was the first transformer I remember who felt like he had any real scale.

I will be forever resentful that I was forced to learn who this character was.

She absolutely should have. We spend way too much time focussed on Bob’s anguish. Although I was glad Willa got some agency in the end.

I mean, not sure they have the range? Assassin’s Creed Passe Blanc is as sort of a mess.

All this praise for the movie without qualification makes me feel like I’m in crazy town.

Well-made, good pacing, good performances, a shame I was unable to enjoy it fully because of some early choices

Was not expecting One Battle After Another to start out with an old-timey Jezebel stereotype.

I just am extremely uninterested in anything involving that particular pop star

I don’t know what a Gaylor is, and I’m content to remain in my ignorance.

I like it because it’s dumb soap opera about one woman who inherits tremendous power, but can only keep it by not using it, so instead she spends decades ruining the lives of everyone in her family.

ICYMI: My latest essay is out @reactorsff.bsky.social!

“It is impossible to consider gratuitous anything that can explore such a wide range of human being. Sex manages to be a reckoning with the body, the self; with desire in myriad ways; a reckoning with the forbidden…”

Most speculative fiction is about the present, regardless of whether it’s set in the past, the future, or elsewhere, I think. All of us grapple with the what is before we create the future hat is not.
