Good news! You can read an oldie but a favorite of mine in Apex today! "Before, After, and the Space Between", first published in @neonhemlock.bsky.social's Unfettered Hexes: Queer Tales of Insatiable Darkness, is about the fraught relationship between a daughter and her mother and their magic 💜🖤
"It surprises me to find you, after a childhood of rejecting your heritage, preparing for a spell this frigid evening." 🩸🌿

1. a holiday shopping $ blackout aimed at big business;
2. worry over small presses closing or paring down.

Let's talk direct action: YOU CAN DO BOTH😀

Call and Response Fun Fact Countdown! 10!

We open with “Femme and Sundance,” queer hustlers turned bank robbers with magical complications.

Fun Fact: the diner in the opening, mean patrons, nasty bathroom, and all resembles a real one in Nebraska.

I’m really bad at sling eligibility posts, but a reminder that my collection Call and Response debuted last month from Neon Hemlock. It contains the brand new short story “The Lonesome Sea.”

The Dreaming of Man by Nikoline Kaiser, from @neonhemlock.bsky.social Haunting, claustrophobic, full of sea-salt and dreariness in all the right ways. Ending feels a little abrupt, but the majority is brilliant. I love stories that tweak Lovecraft & feature characters he wouldn't have. A must-read.

Thank you as always to @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social for being such a champion of A NECESSARY CHAOS ❤️🫶
As we near the end of the year, the last thing you might want is a big, chunky fantasy or science fiction book to drag into the new year. Good thing @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social's got 5 underrated novellas to recommend instead!

+1 to all of these that I've read (A Necessary Chaos in particular is brilliant), and also throwing in there Alex Jeffers' A Mourning Coat, which is seriously one of the most subtle, light touch pieces of fiction (speculative or otherwise) I've read in ages & more people should read it.

This code is still working, for a very tasty discount on this monstrous collection!
My story has two queer women separated by the generations (and by resentment, and being self-centred, and a spot of violence).
Also includes talking animals.
Good idea.... if you use code REDFLAGS you can have 75% off the ebook of THE CRAWLING MOON for the next week.
