Gen Z is working everywhere. It’s their future that’s at stake.
this is not a drag of the writer of this particular piece, which is largely sympathetic, but this line of argument makes me nuts

young people are involved in protest and organizing at several levers of power—but they're not able to show up to photo op street rallies at the same rates as retirees
My @nytimes.com op-ed: The Boomers Are Protesting Trump. Where Is Gen Z? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/24/o... (gift link)

The key point: "The absence of young people from conventional protests is both a problem and a warning."

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

#booksky When was the last time a book “jumped the shark” & you just couldn’t keep reading? This post-apoc fantasy has a Chosen One teen finding avatars of ancient gods. Last chapter the author made the internet work again for zero reason, & just gave the Chosen One an alicorn, & I think I’m done?

There’s a pair of great horned owls calling back and forth outside my window and I am so thrilled I don’t even care that it’s keeping me awake.

Ok, here’s the deal: you’re going to want to keep track of Rae and Type Speaks. The chance to talk about design from a different angle than I usually get to explore was an absolute joy. Rae is a great interviewer and I hope I get a chance to do a Part THREE some day.

This is exactly the humility/honesty/courage to say "I don't know that word" that I was talking about the other day with @guyintheblackhat.bsky.social More like this, please. I want statespeople who are willing to learn things live on air, be corrected about things, and incorporate that new info.
completely outside of politics, this is so charming

Wrist pain, folks. Damn. This has been going on since August of 2024, when I blew out my wrist on a writing job. I did OT from Nov 2024 to March 2025. It helped, but this current flare, that started about a month ago, really does suck. Take care of your hands.

Ever do that thing where you pull apart a whole mess and spread it out on your bed so you absolutely Must deal with it before you can go to sleep?

Ever forget you did that because other stuff came up?

Yeah.

I’m about to quit this book of post-apocalyptic fantasy because it thinks the internet works without a fully intact electrical grid. Like… your magical IT person can fix your laptop & make it so you can print, maybe even set up a WLAN, but internet research? No. I’m squinty.

If you're doing any sort of Medieval #WorldBuilding, for game design or novels or whatever, & you haven't seen Ruth Goodman's "Tudor Monastery Farm", you're in for a treat. I highly recommend her & the crew, & not just for this particular series. #ttrpg #history

This puts into words a lot of what I have been feeling.
Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

I wholeheartedly agree. The importance of a well-placed “I/We don’t know what this is or why” is so crucial to actually find out!
"I don't know" is one of the most powerful intellectual positions imaginable.

Where you plant your "I don't know" flag signals your research question, methodology, and even what *counts* as evidence.

Current commercial manifestations of GenAI make it so you cannot even see the spot on the ground.
My biggest GenAI-related intellectual fear is about the future of “I don’t know”
