I really like this, and I think it’s a crucial problem to solve, and I’m happy to pitch in any way I can to help.

I think Paul, of blessed posting memory, is entirely right here, and I say this *even though* the young people I know remain highly literate and engaged, because I think his sample is way more representative than mine.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Am I doing a reading or conjuring up a ball of hallowed energies?

Thanks to @syr.bsky.social for inviting me to read from THE IRON BELOW REMEMBERS at hivemindbookstore.bsky.social last night!

If you're a RPG designer in (or near enough) to London and want to run a promotional intro game in our little shop, get in touch. We've got a weirdly large pool of TTRPG-curious people chatting to us every day. NAB THEM BEFORE 5E GETS THEM!

Submitted my first-ever Fulbright recommendation! Woo!

Okay, so like does anyone else get super emotional after every interaction with Hades?

Like, even the salute has me all 😫

This is a fun game in a really cool format, just saying.

I’m trying to take joy from small things.

Looking forward to doing a book reading tonight with some other cool authors!

I’m not the most politically educated person though, so I hope I’m completely wrong about this!
sharangbiswas.bsky.social
When I arrived in the US, I was astonished to learn how much of the vaunted Free Press was controlled by right wing interests.

It’s getting worse, & I don’t know a way out of it. Politicians keep telling us to take tiny, individual actions where we really need laws, regulations & work from THEM.

Nice! Sounds lovely and you should go for it! I’ve shown TTRPGs in two exhibitions and it was really cool!
sharangbiswas.bsky.social
Oh woah, cool!

CITOW is actually one of my favourite boardgames and I’m surprised I haven’t roped you in before, lol

Naomi, we should play CHAOS IN THE OLD WORLD together
sharangbiswas.bsky.social
Well, NYC is expensive, lol. But like bringing in work from many designers, paying the curator, doing the actual exhibition design, it adds up!

Plus getting buy-in from all the senior leadership that a TTRPG exhibition is worth it and all!

I’ve tried to organise a small one at a museum I’ve done work with in NYC, but it’s challenging (and expensive!)

The thing about this is, is this is how born-rich people *already* do it - whether it's making art, or starting a business, or whatever they successfully do. They already know it works.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

This is amazing; I very much agree with the how the report calculated value to society here:
www.gov.ie/en/departmen...

But for people excited about a *literal* profit machine, note that the real net fiscal cost was almost €72M. It made €146M due to the estimated value of gains in mental wellbeing.

This is a true thing.

Last year I wrote some stuff for a video game that was so secret I don't know the name of it or even the plot.

Sounds like a joke but it isn't!
