the best part of Tron Legacy (aside from obviously the music) is the gnostic subtext. CLU is a demiurge “I created the perfect system!”. the Grid is an illusory reality. Sam Flynn, son of the true, hidden creator, enters the Grid as a sort of gnostic, Christ-like redeemer.

heartfelt moment in the climax, river threatens to drown an injured frog. suddenly we see scorpion, having learned to swim, diving into the river, music swells:

frog: you came back for me?! why?

scorpion: because…it’s in my nature.

animated movie called The Scorpion and the Frog. in the first act, they nearly drown in the river, adapting the classic fable. but then over the course of the film, they learn to overcome their differences, and it ends with them working together to finally cross that damn river. Just one single page of Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing - here with artists Stan Woch & Alfredo Alcala - can be more enjoyable than many folks’ entire issues. This is, on the surface, nothing more or less than a page of 2 people talking. But what a conversation, & how visually interestingly the discussion.

Comics Folks: Heads up.

Got an effusive email from a Benjamin Alexander, re: one of my books, but the way it was written screamed of Ai.

Asked "thoughtful" questions, I replied b/c "what if I'm being rude to someone being genuine?", but the reply was DEF Ai. Tried to sell me on some marketing svc

A thoroughly fantastical movie poster for the release of 1968’s “Planet Of The Apes” in The Socialist Republic of Romania.

Snuck one last #Swordtember in. “Rodent”. The mouse duelist is maybe too busty but whatever. It happens.
Illustration of a tiny mouse duelist stabbing a giant cat in the neck. Three other cats look on standing on tiered rocks

I truly don’t know what’s triggered it, but this phrase from Tacitus keeps coming to mind today:

“They make a desolation and they call it peace”.

The first graphic novel I ever drew just had a release party at NYCC and I wasn’t invited. Months ago I asked the publisher if they were going to attend the con and they said they had no plans. Then like 3 weeks ago they asked if I was going, they were doing an event.

(Cue that famous Kirby quote)

been thinking about social media and this Joseph Campbell quote: “This is the threat to our lives that we all face today. Is the system going to flatten you out and deny you your humanity, or are you going to be able to make use of the system to the attainment of human purposes?”

I’ve said this several times so it’s time for me to stop talking about it and put my money where my mouth is (I’m trying)…but I really, sincerely believe that the next Vertigo will emerge through Kickstarter.
