My approach to recharging:
🔸 morning exercise & music (alone)
🔸if I'm giving a talk that day, block off an hour (anytime) before
🔸treat alone-time like a meeting (don't be late 😉)

Any other #DDW2025 survival tips for introverts? Pls share 🙈 @ddwmeeting.bsky.social

💯
Interestingly these associations didn’t sue over the diversity funding being retracted.

How to get 146% return on investment?
The NIH. That's just the economic benefit.
Biomedical research promotes human health.
NIH cuts aren't just a loss for "liberal woke" universities.
These funds are used to support labs and staff and researchers- they're what make our work viable. This cut is a huge blow to science advancement.
This will have a crippling financial impact on academic institutions, increase unemployment, & stifle science

The $47B NIH budget generates ~$93B in economic activity/yr. Unparalleled 2.46-fold ROI. nearly every new drug has an origin in science funded by NIH incl pharma/biotch
If this is real, it seems intended to cause confusion, fear, and panic.

I maintain that we should not self-censor pre-emptively until things settle down and more is known (criteria to flag vs reject etc).
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Important thread by @shaziamsiddique.bsky.social on the danger of using race as a biologic construct.

#MedSky - I asked her to join us from X. Please follow her for insights on science, evidence, and equity!
Perpetuating the false notion that race is biologic is dangerous. We've sequenced the human genome & know there's more genetic variation within a racial category than amongst them. (1/3)
ALSOBROOKS: You said 'we should not be giving Black people the same vaccine schedule that is given to whites.' Can you please explain what you meant?

RFK Jr: There's a series of studies ...

ALSOBROOKS: What different schedule would you say I should've recevied?
The AHRQ website went down for 24 hours and when it came back up, two of our reports were taken down (algorithms impacting disparities, and implicit bias training on patient safety outcomes). The censorship is real.
Differences in disease prevalence and treatment response by race are NOT *because of* race.
If trends showed people from NJ (like me!) had different responses would you treat them all differently or figure out why (social, economic, genetic factors). This line of reasoning is dangerous (3/3)
Race-based medicine is antiquated, deepens disparities and has limited applicability to our fastest growing group in the US- those with mixed racial & ethnic background. We cannot go backward. (2/3)
