Hell yeah. Very cool

Make me more enzymes for chiral synthesis

SO MUCH BETTER THAN RHODIUM OR IRIDIUM

I very strongly champion the use of enzymatic synthesis in pharma for single transformations

It is the rich who are destroying your way of life to enrich themselves

It is the rich who are pillaging the earth

When you further divide the population on the basis of the color of your propaganda flag, you are doing the work of the masters.

Turn your hate to the rich

They are the true enemy
shmemistry.bsky.social
It's not the fault of people who are trying to make a living and especially to the degree that they are propagandized.

Save your ire for those who deserve it, the corporations and the bourgeoisie they serve. They're the traitors to the planet and to the people who live on it.

So yes, the value proposition is hard
shmemistry.bsky.social
It's a negative energy return.

It's just there to soak up tax dollars as corporate progits

It's not useless, but lignin valorization just isnt super promising in light of other possibilities
shmemistry.bsky.social
You could separate by fractional dist, but energy intensive. A cyclic CO2 capture/fuel synthesis based on formate or methanolic derivatization is likely better because there are fewer manipulations that have to be done to reach a useful liquid fuel. Bonus points if it's powered by solar or similar
shmemistry.bsky.social
Lignin valorization or mixed cellulosic lignin is not awesome because lignin is not easily broken into small chain alkanes or alcohols. It contains large amounts of aromatic rings and poly etheric or phenolic groups upon depolymerization. These don't make good fuels because they don't burn cleanly
shmemistry.bsky.social
Awesome
So yeah cellulose waste is ok, easy to break apart and use the resultant glucose because it can be fermented, but it has the same steps as corn ethanol, with added processing and enzymatic degradation. Not really an energetic benefit, and takes a lot of surface area for low energy density

Are you a scientist?

Asking so I can tune my response

In my opinion it’s time to retire the Nobel prizes for fields where most of the important discoveries have already been made, like physics, and add prizes for newer fields where substantial innovations occur every year, like speedrunning

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?

I am delighted to share that Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee will join our Department of Economics @econ.uzh.ch at the University of Zurich on July 1, 2026, as Lemann Foundation Professors of Economics.

There are a lot of people who just lost their fucking minds because a black man was president and they never got better

After there's a national reckoning over all their resultant malfeasance we're going to need socialized medicine so we can get all these goddamned lunatics into therapy

BARTIROMO: On your point about the Nobel Peace Prize, do you think maybe the reason Trump won't get it is because you had to get the application in before Jan. 31, and that was only 11 days into his term?

SCALISE: Look, they can play technicalities. They gave it to Obama for just getting elected.

I apologize for the diatribe

It is infuriating

It is a criminally absurd assertion for anyone to make the claim that corn ethanol is even remotely energy efficient, environmentally sound, or sustainable

It is a scam perpetrated by corporate lobbying firms to capture tax dollars as corporate profits

manufacture of yeast strains, water purification

And then following fermentation, clarification, heated fractional distillation, and then chemical drying of the distillate to remove residual water, and everything that goes into that
shmemistry.bsky.social
Double down on those mental gymnastics for making corn ethanol and consider the fertilizers run off to a substantial degree, there is an energetic footprint of developing and manufacturing enzymes to cleave corn starch into fermentable sugars, climate control for fermentation, isolation and
