I'm also going to attempt to clear a flower bed of bindweed (this, after digging out bamboo, by hand, last year). But I'm pondering whether the Sisyphean task is worth... The effort. I mean... Is bindweed get-rid-of-able?

I know this isn't the kind of highbrow content the inhabitants of Bluesky usually prefer, but prior to my afternoon meetings I will mainly be getting soaked in the autumn mizzle, moving manure from one place to another...

All this in preparation for hedgeplanting. *grins*

We have an economic and financial system that read the fable of the Goose and the Golden Egg, and concluded the moral of the tale was that the goose should be thrown into a wood chipper.

I shall riff on this a little. The contemporary art market (especially) transforming itself into an investment market / series of luxury brands is highly problematic for the market itself.

A stunning 2,000 year-old Roman blue glass amphoriskos.

#Archaeology
Getty Museum photo of a translucent, dark blue, two-handled, glass flask (amphoriskos) against a grey background. The free-blown body is bulbous in shape, with a narrow neck with a flattened rim. The two handles were added afterwards and attach to the body and mouth. The handle on the right has been attached slightly higher up on the body than the other side. Height 10.5 cm. There is some incrustation on the interior of the glass.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Tempted to get Temu solely so I can purchase this, mount it next to my front door, and engineer some kind of lever so that I can put my keys in its mouth and have it champ down on them to keep them safe.
Better than a hook.

I will never not find it funny that the strings in Sisqo's Thong Song were inspired by Eleanor Rigby.

The echolalia is strong today.
I saw the name Aleister Crowley, earlier, and have had it knocking around my head all day to the tune of Eleanor Rigby.

If you’re hearing news about a cancer break-through and wonder what’s hype and what’s not, here’s a good explainer of the actual findings in animal studies.

This is some elegant science that pulls together several lines of long-standing inquiry, and yes, it’s a BFD.

Can I ask what utility is there in a government that is able to shut down at will, massively disadvantaged the very people it is supposed to serve, for what appears to be no reason?
How are there not checks and balances to prevent something so damaging?

Agatha Christie was an avid surfer. Loved it. My parents went to a lecture about her recently, and it came up. There is no joke here. I just wanted you to have it to think about this afternoon.
