My current folly is this oil painting copy of the Revachol key art from Disco Elysium, originally by @rostovjanka.bsky.social

I know this isn't applicable to everyone's situation, and yes, people can hurt you, but they can also heal you. Choose the direction of your effort, but don't refuse it outright.

And if those people love you, they will likely support you right back through your difficulties (which could be happening at the same time as theirs). All too often, withdrawing is something depression is telling you to do, and it's a filthy liar.

I think a lot of the (rightful) pushback is against giving too much of yourself to people who greatly harm you, just because of a sense of obligation. It shouldn't be about opting out of all sacrifice, unpleasant feelings or situations that result from supporting the people you love.

But if you want a good relationship with someone, you have to be open to giving and receiving freely, not only protecting yourself.

So, my therapist explained it like, you don't owe these things to anyone – this is a gift you give to them, so give it intentionally and in the right spirit.

Stuff like “you shouldn’t feel guilty canceling plans” morphed into something closer to “you should feel good canceling plans.” Stuff like “you should be able to cut toxic people out of your life” edged closer to “find reasons to see people as toxic enough to cut out of your life.”

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.

When I did mine, it was my incredibly shitty short-term memory that did me in for the listening comprehension.

The most experienced and accomplished women in the world are condescended to and belittled by the most inconsequential men you've never heard of (and will never) on a daily basis.

Many scholars have connected this text with other things. But the connection I am going to make in this paper will shock you

These movements globally are at root a refusal to hear the word “no”. There can be no external restrictions. No planetary chemistry may interfere with profit, no law may block executive power. Thus the platform.

Normally we drink ‘a cup of tea’. It only turns into ‘a nice cup of tea’ following some exertion eg shopping or mild contretemps/disappointing news/ etc.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Instead of competing for limited resources, other humanities disciplines should accept that they are all essentially branches of literary criticism

In the older ones, I didn't like how a lot of the 'girl' cross-set armour combinations just meant you had nothing on in the waist/crotch, and not in a pretty way

Coming back to MH Rise, I still love how they stopped gender-locking armour. You now get two looks for each piece of armour, and so many fashion choices!

Not to suggest that writers need Nerd Qualifications to be able to do what they are good at doing, though! Let them cook

Dengeki Faminico Gamer surveyed ~2,900 readers about what games they'd "eternal sunshine" to forget, and enjoy like it's the first time. 🧠 We've covered 9/10 titles on this great list (but this editor does recommend 'em all!👍).

Nice! And if she played TTRPGs, she probably already understood what a game story needed in a practical sense.
