We created personal Hekatean symbols during Nat's session the day before and painted them onto our own offering bowls at a beautiful ceramicists in Kontopouli. We also made Lemnian Clay tablets.

Back from the sacred island of Lemnos and the Rites of Hekate with House of Zophiel (still buzzing). It was a glorious week of learning, connection, creativity and magick. We laughed. We wept. I am so grateful for every moment. Thank you Lenni and @natclegg.bsky.social. More photos over on Insta 💚🖤✨️

Hags and water spirits abound in English folklore; in Suffolk we have a tale of a pond in Rendlesham said to be haunted by a ghostly woman in white who has been seen gliding on its surface or rising from its depths…

I just shoved everything I want to take to Lemnos in the general direction of my suitcase (including emergency underoos, @eoscuro.bsky.social) That counts as packing, right!? 🤣😭 xxxx

In a typical me purchase, I've acquired a set of vintage postcards (I think 40s or 50s) depicting the Sussex legend of Devil's Dyke...

I'm also biased, but same!! 🤣

That's my last London office day done until I get back from Lemnos! 2 more days to go. 3 more sleeps.

At Michaelmas, the people of Iona used to race their horses around the Sithean Mòr (big fairy mound) – probably an old animal-blessing ritual. There seems to have been a prehistoric cairn at the top of the hill but it's long gone. This is also the mound on which St Columba discoursed with angels!

Whilst I advocate that the dark and strange shouldn't ever be constrained to a "spooky season". The 'Ber' months are still my favourite time of the year. October especially! 🍃🍂🍁🍃🍂🍁

October Country
Ray Bradbury
for @tomsbrown.bsky.social and any others who love this month.
OCTOBER COUNTRY
By Ray Bradbury
... that country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun.
That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain. ...

I will not piss on anyone’s chips, but as a project which celebrates the English gothic and the weird every day of the year, I sigh heartily at the start of October. Celebration of the dark and strange should never be calendar constrained. #October

Sometimes twelve, sometimes twenty steps. Some say the gate at the top leads to yesterday if you climb before dawn. Others say that time drips slow here, each step a year lost. Still others say the gate only opens for those the Hollow remembers. Most don’t return. @hookland.bsky.social
