A quick intro to Slumberland: we're a tiny indie record label that started in 1989 in MD/DC and has resided in Oakland, CA since 1992. We've mostly focused on indiepop but SLR has also released power-pop, punk, shoegaze, post-punk, etc. Stubbornly uncool.

People have been running schools, writing stories, writing plays, and composing music for millennia, and suddenly no can imagine how those things are possible without AI.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I was going to ask if you'd heard the recent one and then I realized it's almost 10 years old. Was a very nice surprise!

The Cords interviewed by Andrew Williams for The Skinny, up on their site now.
"...it would be cool if we were a stadium band, but we also love the little cult following we have at the moment. And that already feels like a crazy amount of people."

Happy release day to SF's The Telephone Numbers! "Scarecrow II" is a love letter to mid 80-90’s college/alt rock, blending Minneapolis/Athens vibes with careful songcraft that recalls folks like Felt and Go-Betweens. Out today on CD and lovely green vinyl LP.

Lovely Telephone Numbers review from Rosy Overdrive:
"...Rubenstein is remarkable in how he manages to carve out his own signature style while giving so much of himself over to the towering jangle pop, college rock, and power pop that’s shaped the entire scene."
