The podotremes are a series of weirder than weird crabs, yet somehow they are true crabs (Brachyura). The elongated body and visible abdomen aren't very "crablike" and suggest they have more ancestral morphology.

These alienesque guys are Latreillia metanesa and Cymonomus chani.

Specimen photo of Cymonomus chani by Tin-Yam Chan (who the species is named for). It is a colorless crab with an almost squarish carapace and quite inflated pleon visibly almost as long as the carapace in dorsal view. The pleon indicates it is female but even in males it would stick out. The back 2 pairs of legs are reduced, perhaps for carrying.
