By 1874, the Midland Railway Company had run out of space at St Pancras Goods yard and it expanded into the area south of Brill Place. 4,000 homes were demolished and 10,000 people were relocated to make way for the goods yard.

Hackney House Built Circa 1727 was a wealthy merchant's manor built around 1727 at Homerton by the architect Colen Campbell and was demolished in the 1960s.The estate covered 18 acres of walled grounds and 200 acres of farmland stretching to Homerton and beyond. East of Lower Clapton Road.

Shoreditch Empire 95-99, Shoreditch High St, Formerly Holywell St. Built in the year 1856 was reconstructed in the year 1894. Later on in the year 1895 it became known as the London Theatre of Varieties, in the year of 1896 it became known as The London Music Hall. The theatre demolished 1935

Sadly, the street where my paternal grandfather was born, Sarah Street, was erased only in recent years -behind the 'dole office' on Hoxton Street. My grandmother's place of birth, Drysdale Street still exists. So close to the City in which I worked, yet in socio-economic terms, a million miles away
