#OtD 14 Oct 1977 anti-gay crusader Anita Bryant was "pied" by Thom Higgins, a gay rights activist. She then began praying and burst into tears. Following a boycott, she lost her job as brand ambassador for Florida orange juice. More LGBT+ history here: workingclasshistory.com/tag/lgbtq/

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

I unironically think we should return to #subway tokens for transit.

They can be any price, they don't expire.

There is no technological failure mode for them, sensors can reject counterfeit slugs.

You can give them to people who need them, and if designed well, make nice collectables.

Beetles are always well represented, and some of these cars have been at the Marina for years, like the red MGB. I haven't seen this #Chrysler300M before though. Definitely a forgotten machine these days.

That concludes tonight's car show!

As usual, there were lots of vans young and old, including this dazzle camo Vanagon. Also a very down-at the heel FD RX-7 and a truly broken Toyota Tacoma.

These days every #Honda CRX is considered sporty, but this is the CRX "HF," which was the ultra-miserly economy version. It did up to 46 mpg combined. The flush headlights mean it's an '86 or '87 mk1.

Took a walk at Shilshole Marina for the first time in ages and, as in the past, the car spotting did not disappoint. A🧵:

First up, a Mitsubishi Diamante, a Merc W116, an Isuzu Trooper and an '08 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Republicans have been talking about "repeal and replace" since JANUARY OF 2011. By 2015, they'd voted to repeal it 67 times. That was ten years ago.

In all that time, they have presented no plan as to what they would do to "replace" it. Because they have no plan — and never will.

REPORTER: Do you support repealing Obamacare and what's your healthcare plan?

MIKE JOHNSON: We worked on repealing and replacing Obamacare back in 2017. I still have PTSD from the experience. We know that American healthcare needs dramatic reform. We have lots of ideas.

(So, no plan)

maybe it's called the free press bc you get what you pay for

Ever since it was made official, I've thought it was sadly funny that most of the people I know in the Automotive media world put more effort into sourcing and fact checking stories about Mitsubishi Outlanders and Dacia Dusters than the Free Press, and now CBS News, puts into any of its work.

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

There is no insurrection in Portland unless you consider an uptick of people wearing inflatable frog costumes an insurrection.

No one is falling for this absurd propaganda, and there is NO justification for deploying our troops against peaceful American citizens.

WELKER: Are you looking at invoking the Insurrection Act?

VANCE: We have to remember we are talking about this bc crime has gotten out of control

W: Crime is down in both Chicago & Portland

V: Crime is down bc they are so overwhelmed at the local level they are not even keeping stats properly

Said it a thousand times, but the fact that the general public does not understand the difference between an opinion writer and a reporter is a real fucking problem.

Or northern cities, for that matter, as in Harold Washington vs. Bernie Epton in Chicago.
