This year I am going to fall back in love with reading. Grad school beat my love of reading to a bloody pulp, and I'm resolving to heal it. I've already made a start on my TBR backlog!

Current read: Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS BOOK, I AM QUELLE STUPIDE.

There is a girl in my class today who is wearing a very fashionable red track suit, obviously high end designer, along with tons of gold jewelry as well as fancy styled hair and heavy makeup...

...and white Crocs.

I am never going to understand fashion.

I am so proud of you! I hope you have a lovely time.

THIS THING RIGHT HERE.

No matter what you are using AI to do, it is doing something that is a skill and that you are not developing. Summarizing is a skill. Picking out important pieces of information is a skill. Taking notes improves retention.

I think the killer argument against relying upon AI to write is the massive amount of thinking and concept-welding that goes on for me (and I assume most everyone else) during the *process* of writing something - it’s a cognitive process and I know I’d actively get stupider if I skipped it

I also just wonder if any of these people have ever really appreciated the value added in going through the experience of something like this. The fact that it changes you to engage with and puzzle over your own work, that you're not a content printer that just needs juicing to go faster.

I loved the focus on M'Benga. And I liked the choice to show that healing isn't linear and forcing people into situations when they aren't ready does not end well - you can't just SAY everything is fine now. It was an uncomfortable episode with a lot of grey and I thought it was well done.

Get a functional movement assessment, and work with a good physical therapist to fix imbalances or weird compensations. The earlier you start, the easier it is to unlearn bad patterns.

"Please sign in"
"Huh?"
"Sign your name on the line here."
"What does that mean?"
"Write your name."
"But it's typed right next to the line."
"Yes. You signing is how we know you were here."
"Can I just circle my name?"

Y'all. The kids aren't all right.

So I cancelled HBO back in July but apparently we still have it? So we watched the new Superman tonight! Very much enjoyed it - well done solid casting, good pacing. All around good movie.

I am planning a training series in public speaking next spring. My direct report sent me a list of "suggestions" which was basically a complete curriculum. I told her thanks, I appreciate the ideas, I've got this.

Today I learn she's doing a small group training of her own. No ask. No collab. Ugh.

JFC. I learned how to read crazy early because my grandma read to me every night. I still remember how she would read. This makes me sick.

Oh look, it's like we don't have to throw trans rights under the bus to win.

@apnews.com: Democrats did not "vote for a shutdown". They voted AGAINST a funding bill.

It is also not their job to "find a way out". It is the governing majority's job. The Democrats have presented their terms. The onus is on the Republicans to negotiate.
Democrats voted for a shutdown. Now they have to find a way out
Senate Democrats kept their promise to reject any Republican spending bill that didn’t extend or restore health care benefits, choosing instead to force a government shutdown.
