Cool life hack: got kid birthday parties to attend? Buy some @mischieftoy.com gift cards and never stress about presents! Anyone (including tweens and teens) can find something they like there and you support a small business! 😎
Mischief toy store card and gift card, with a funky red, orange, purple octopus with a bowler hat. Mischief is located at 818 Grand Avenue, “between Victoria and Avon in Saint Paul’s Historic Steampunk District.” This envelope is headed to a kid’s birthday party today

Yes please, I apparently need urban orthopedic urgent care and don’t want to drive in a car there when I’m hurt (I have been to Eagan twice in two years for it - that is two times too many imo)

😱 shhhhhh don’t give them ideas!
stinamo.bsky.social
Oh my! That is so wild and also kind of the dream!

I think people don’t generally think of it if it wasn’t lost on transit, but I see the line up of lost bikes brought to the garage and there are so so many!

Have you checked Metro Transit lost and found? Sometimes stolen bikes get left on buses or trains, or dumped at stations.

Can y’all please be on the lookout for my bike? Last seen in Elliot Park. It is a black Biria bike with red pedals and stickers of local news orgs on the bottom tube. It also has a Brooks saddle and adapters for Wolf Tooth pogies on the handlebars.
Biria bike with a sign that says “300 Campground”

Thank you for saying this because I didn’t know it was a whole thing. I seem to have piled up allll the autoimmune symptoms over the last week!

If you’ve got a chronic illness and you’re struggling right now…
Be gentle with yourself.

The “October Slide” is real and can have devastating effects on your baseline.

Remember it’s ok to rest. To take breaks. To prioritize self care.

There’s no prize for playing through the pain.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

I hope they don’t need roadway striping?

Know what is worse than SOVs? Zero occupancy vehicles. I saw so many of these empty cars driving around San Francisco, just making traffic.

Well, here it comes: @toreyvanoot.bsky.social reports that Waymo has hired lobbyists in Minnesota and been talking to state lawmakers, looking for legislative approval to operate in MN

My favorite transit ad right now is “All Aboard the Gus Bus” (and I do say it out loud every time it pulls up)

Your regular reminder that robustly funding public agencies to develop in-house capacity instead of outsourcing to consultants saves money and time.

Doing everything with consultants has so many drawbacks. I would love to work for a government agency that is staffed to do capital work itself for a while. Just to see how much of a difference it makes.

You know how much time I spend just getting contractors and consultants to agree to do things?

Those are interesting issues! Urgent care is so real for our family too. I have found quirky things like getting a kid to/from a friend’s house, or picking up something from the Buy Nothing group. A lot of ppl live just a bit far from transit imo (but I don’t bike and that limits me a lot)

Anyway, cheers to anyone who is riding transit, trying to ride transit, walking/rolling or otherwise just making it work without a car every day. I see you.

I think it’s honestly pretty ableist to assume that people don’t need to go places on transit on the weekend (when these races and road closures always occur), or that their time isn’t valuable. Couldn’t we let an A Line full of ppl cross Summit every 10 minutes? A metro line!
stinamo.bsky.social
Regarding the marathon (and other numerous road races that close bridges and Summit, etc) I think closing all the streets at the same time is just bad. It really makes transit detours/stops impossible to follow much less get anywhere on time. There’s got to be a better way.

How did everybody’s #weekwithoutdriving go? I made it pretty easily 5 days before losing patience with low-frequency service (Saturday) and the nightmare marathon bus detours (Sunday). Good to reflect on where my breaking point is, and not surprisingly it’s around transit frequency and reliability
