Listen to Reagan’s words and judge for yourself. Trump is, again, lying.
Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:
As an aside, after many viewings of The West Wing, these pics have shown me just how distinct the actual West Wing is, from The Residence. I always thought that Bartlet just strolled round the corner from his bedroom to the Oval Office.
Because Americans believed their rights were guaranteed by the Constitution, they resolutely refused to sign up to any international legal framework. Now, they discover they have no rights at all, and no fallback.

Indeed. It's extraordinary this huge political watershed is elided from our conversation.

It took a few years to absorb the reality - that this wasn't just a blip, that everything was going to get worse, from here on in.

Even now, nearly 20 years on, pols are still hoping for a turnaround.

Which assumed that each of these old codgers waited until on their deathbed, before impregnating their wives.
Daft.
"democracy’s work"
Of course, Parliament would have to enact it - but I don't think they should be allowed to mark their own homework.
I would assemble a Citizens' Constitutional Assembly to examine proposals & their advantages&disadvantages, and draw up a charter for Parliament to vote on.
Once it's handed over, it ceases to be 'taxpayers' money'; it is government money.

Do we call Amazon profits our money? Do we call bank profits our moeny? No, because it isn't ours anymore.
I'm not quite so cynical; I'm pretty sure the Civil Service has absorbed much of the needful & that some Hallett's eventual recommendations will be institutionalised. I'm more worried about politicians 'learning' that avoidance of blame matters more than making unpopular-but-necessary decisions.
