"Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain."
- Liz Cheney

The lede is bad enough but then the first sentence of the essay contains the phrase “epistolary bromance” and, do people actually get paid to write stuff like this?? 😬😂

Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

whenever i encounter people who say they can't understand shakespeare verses I always send them this clip from the 2019 Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado About Nothing

This seems very much in keeping with what I’ve always understood about the rowdy nature of the original productions in Shakespeare’s time.

Also, it’s just awesome.

Your correspondent was speaking in front of about 400 attorneys & judges today and all was going well until I had to say the word “jurisdiction” and I don’t know what tried to come out of my mouth but it was nowhere close to “jurisdiction”. 😬😩

And as much as I’d rather be living in a mundane time of “normal” history such is not our fate. If liberal democracy (which I believe in to the very depths of my soul) is to be rebuilt and to thrive in this land it’s up to us.

This is why, for many of us, it literally feels like a different world than 10 years ago. As if one age ended and another has begun, or perhaps, is being born.
But as politics never ends so too history never ends. What kind of world will our children inherit? It all depends on what we do now.

Sorry. An explanation is in order. This is the DOJ arguing in Federal court in Illinois today in the hearing about NG troops being deployed to Illinois.

As y’all might have ascertained, I disagree with the argument.

I’m not a Catholic but I am a Christian. This statement is quite moving. This is the way of Jesus.

"The Church, like a mother, accompanies those who are walking," the pontiff writes in the document, titled "Dilexi te" (I have loved you). "She knows that in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community."

I truly hope this is the first step toward peace. Time will tell.

These “officers” must face legal consequences.

Keep in mind there’s a record of their abuses and Trump won’t be president forever. In fact every ICE officer ought to be in fear of future legal jeopardy if they abuse their powers.

I strongly disagree. Every action big and small in defense of democracy matters. It’s like building a house. One could say “What good is that doorknob? That’s not a house”. But by steadily building, piece by piece, brick by brick, you do in fact end up with a house.

Oh we are in the heart of Trump country.

Yet at the two previous events I’ve been to the turnout and the support from passing motorists was very encouraging!

Truth. (Although I’ve found our local group to be downright decent folks)

I like the ESV best. I find it readable and clear. I also spent a lot of time with it for several years back when I taught Sunday School so I came to know it well.

Also like RSV. And for some things you just can’t beat KJV. Psalm 23 in my head is always in the KJV.

I agree we can and must push back and we still have our democratic rights.

But things are getting more and more fascisty every day.

Some people have already been beaten up and locked up, temporarily at least, for doing nothing more than peacefully protesting.
