Might be worth looking specifically at work on iconic instances—Revenge of the Nerds, High Fidelity, How I Met Your Mother, Ted Lasso, Fboy Island, etc.. From a theoretical angle, Kate Manne on himpathy and Michael Kimmel on aggrieved masculinity could be useful as well.

FWIW, after one stereotypically bad experience, I looked for a dealership that employed multiple women as sales reps and contacted one of them. Not sure I necessarily got a better deal than I would have otherwise, but she was a lovely human and the process just felt so much less icky.
