Thinking again about how @brendancbyrne.bsky.social and I wrote a novella in 2019 about an AI-driven truth and reconciliation process in a post-civil insurrection USA and how the process merely papers over the country's massive fault lines...really thought we were going over the top there, damn

Sorry to quote but can’t reply to thread. Worth noting that MPD implemented many of the latest police reform trainings before George Floyd. It was considered one of the better run reform departments. I don’t think the level of training analytically distinguishes policing from other state violence
A department that was taken over because of its many failings at policing, including that murder, for which the officer was convicted.

My neighbor told me today that her six year old checks every day that their mom, a citizen and daughter of naturalized refugees, is leaving the house with her passport in case ICE tries to take her

Then I opened my phone and saw news of another death squad execution in MN

What the fuck, man

It's just so wild to me that ProPublica gets funding from big philanthropies that fund work on AI and labor and at the same time management is so casually refusing to engage with the union on this issue...feel like someone should tell their program officers idk
4/ And, when we proposed that workers will not be laid off as a result of AI and that potential future work generated by AI must be clearly labeled, management said “no” to both proposals. Their offer to write AI guidelines without staff input isn’t close to enough.

MN's AG: “We will not save our country in a courtroom. ... ultimately, this country will be saved by the people of the United States. And so that — you protesting, you gathering evidence, you sharing it with us, you communicating with us — is action. It’s actually how we’re going to win.”

I'm thinking Bill Skarsgard as Coalie here
coalie: an innocent hydrocarbon child, taken away from his people and raised to exploit them. but when he discovers the secret of what happens to coal when it leaves the mine, coalie breaks his chains—and a few heads

this time, coal burns...the oppressor

Are there any examples of places demanding/getting bigger concessions from data center developments beyond baseline $ or jobs? Like if companies are trenching new fiber for their building why not require the company to also lay the groundwork for a municipal fiber build-out. Is this a thing?
