This evening, a resident was kidnapped by agents with face coverings. They disguised themselves in masks and as Uber drivers. They even left kids abandoned inside a car in the freezing cold. 1/

it's not an accident that the "debunking" focus is on water — the more easily mitigated impact of data centers (and still companies are reluctant to pay for it).

of course, mitigating water use often requires more energy use, requiring more *off-site* water use. which conveniently isn't counted.
There is a movement to "prove that the datacenter water issues is fake". If you venture into Muskrat's hell site, you can see the community note these people put on this great piece of investigative journalism, accusing them of unfairly implicating datacenters.

tech giants — AWS included — are moving exactly like other big polluters when it comes to data centers: abusing NDAs to keep communities in the dark, bringing new (and old) fossil fuel infrastructure online, abandoning sustainability pledges when convenient. there's no debunking that.

i've seen multiple hot takes fundamentally misrepresenting the RS piece, which pulls no punches re: underlying culpability of the agricultural industry.

there's a reflexive resistance to portraying data centers as what they are: industrial infrastructure. it erodes the myth of exceptionalism.
