Hey #MMRomance #Romancelandia 🌈📚 I have a new book:
When Jay moves into his dorm, he’s convinced that he’s straight. But even if he can reconcile his physical attraction to Derek, can either of them handle the feelings growing between them? “When I Trust You” is a spicy novelette
available now!

after getting over the initial shock I got a follow-up "oof" remembering he was just in the Sly Stone doc talking about how white rock stars get to grow old and comfortable

I still think donating to PACs is a trap, especially in races where I can't vote, but props to these folks for being transparent in their spam text. (And if you feel differently about PACs, that's up to you.)
Partial transcript of an unsolicited text message I received:

ok, well how about the (San Francisco) Cliff House Hotel?
The San Francisco Cliff House hotel is a gingerbready affair, and it looks like a giant hand set it down partly off the edge of a rocky coast, and then smushed a bit of stone under it to make it look less in danger of imminent collapse. The photo is black and white, and a stormy sky looms behind the hotel, with clouds lit by a lightning strike.

(also, and relevantly for #LGBTQWriteAThon both Danny and Nykky are bisexual)

I have 2 MCs #LGBTQWriteAThon 14 - Danny and Nykky are both professional musicians. They used to be in a band, they used to be in love. They're both still in the Bay Area, making livings doing session work, lessons, getting hired for tours—and they're both still huge fans of a certain 80s metal band

the more unhinged a quote i see, the more comforted i feel that he hasn't already died and been replaced by some animatronic llm nightmare

(I'm also still a teeny bit salty about the trilogy where book 1 advances a romantic plot, book 2 kills half of the couple, and book 3's back cover copy starts "after the tragic death of..."—which I read in a bookshop, without knowing it was NOT book 2. but I think that's far less likely these days)

and more opportunity to appreciate the craft. I hope my new book offers readers two genuine moments of surprise, and reveals some "oh you DID lay groundwork for that didn't you?" on a re-read.
("It's a romance, Villain, how can it be surprising?" "Oh, just you wait.")

and I think there is a distinct, non-replicable pleasure of trying to work out what is around the next curve of the rollercoaster (not just for whodunnits, but obviously those). And on the other hand you're more watching the ride from the ground. I think that affords some "oh, just you wait!" fun...

in that case I was watching with @editrixie.bsky.social who had NOT been spoiled, and it was very frustrating. probably too subtle for the microblog, but I think spoiled/unspoiled may be two different valid ways of engaging with a particular narrative. In one you're more along for the ride ...

the season of Sopranos where a major character wrestles with a decision through most of it, is, IMO, an exception. knowing what he would decide destroyed the tension for me. ymmv of course.

digging up this old post because if I have to get AI slop scam emails about this novel, I might as well at least put the real thing on my timeline

the thief character is nonbinary and a shapeshifter! she goes by he or she. AI doesn't get that because it doesn't get anything. but YOU can
