#Smutcember In my WIP, Danny and Nykky’s 1st kiss (in ten years, after a very messy breakup) happens on stage, accidentally. They’ve been hired as the touring rhythm section for a rock band they both admire. She’s drumming, he’s playing bass, and then— (CW for getting “handsy”)

My former senator is correct, but needs to go farther. If you're one of his constituents, you could let him know.
The ICE abductions must end.

This looks like an extremely dangerous thread. 😱
(for my wallet)
I was set to list my favorite books of 2025 a week ago, but @thelincoln.bsky.social came in under the wire with Metallic Realms. A Trekkie's book like Redshirts or Galaxy Quest: you have to love Star Trek to really enjoy how goofy and lampoonable it is. Wild on talent and fandom.

#Smutcember 5 Both my 2 books and my WIP feature characters vehemently trying to deny their attraction to someone they are paying VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO for some reason. That's probably my primary trick for establishing chemistry. Also, "Oops, why did that flirty phrase come out of my mouth!?"
#Smutcember, it's time to talk about our work! To start off:

How do you build chemistry between your characters? You can speak in general terms or give specific examples, whichever you prefer.

#Smutcember my writing circle is WAY smaller than my reading circle. I want diversity in my books, but I don't think I should write BIPOC main/viewpoint characters (but read many), and there are some themes I don't mind reading in some contexts, but would be outside of my comfort zone to write.
Last establishing question, #Smutcember:

Do you read different kinds of smut than you write, or is that Venn diagram a circle?

#Smutcember I struggle a bit with the question, for me it's really "do I prefer reading or writing." I guess I doubt I would have written anything spicy if I hadn't read some first, and most of the time when I read I'm analyzing what works/or not for me, and if there are techniques I could apply—
Continuing our #Smutcember setup:

Do you have a preference between reading smut or writing it, or perhaps engaging with it in a different form of media entirely? If so, what about that form of engagement appeals to you the most?

The way these stories interlock is amazing. Just don't ask me to pick a favorite.
All four Holidays with the Wongs novellas are available as individual paperbacks! You can also read them in ebook and audio.

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

my hot take is: i have heard vaguely of Justinian and have a negative opinion. Because he was an emperor. I also wonder if he specifically might have an extra high false positive rate because his name sounds a bit like "Justice."
I'm sorry, but I just do not believe that 32% of US adults know who Justinian was, let alone have an opinion about him one way or the other
Cleopatra is the single most popular ancient figure* among Americans. Big potential support base for the "attractive maniac" candidate

Quite simply one of the very finest thrillers I've ever read. A case study in inexorable mounting tension, and using setting as character and to reinforce theme.
December 2, 2025 at 6:02 PM
My main thing #Smutcember is I want my spicy scenes to be load-bearing—reveal character or advance the plot, preferably both; if you skip them you should miss critical bits of story. In terms of boundaries if I'm writing protagonists I want them to be caring & respectful based on their circumstance—
As we continue into #Smutcember, it's important to know:

What is your spice comfort level? Does it vary between what you enjoy privately and what you're willing to share? Do you have hard boundaries for what you engage with?

The new orchestral re-working of Moor Mother's "Analog Fluids for Sonic Black Holes" is staggering. "LA92" sounds even more urgent and angry than it did 6 years ago.

Hi #Smutcember I write "optimistic/queer/nerdy romance" as A. Lee Welles. I recently released an MM novelette and plan next year to query a queer MF novel with a dash of cosmic horror. The former is spicy. The latter MIGHT have been closed-door, but one of the characters insisted otherwise.
Welcome to #Smutcember, folks!

To start things off, introduce yourself and the work(s) or characters you plan on discussing this month. You can focus on one relationship or several, it's up to you!

We cannot afford to regard these terms as impolite. We need to feel free to say them. If it's rude to say rape, it's way easier to get away with being a rapist. If you can't call somebody a nazi but they're being a nazi, that's how you wind up where we are.

Pretty much ANY statistic you see cited to frighten you about vaccines comes from the VAERS database. (Including the recent evidence-free missive from Vinay Prasad). Here's why VAERS can NEVER be a proper source for population-level vaccine risk estimates.
