If you ever wonder why people say "slippery as an eel" I can confirm that one time we had to hold an eel for a vet to do a blood draw and that eel ended up on the floor 47 times out of 48 attempts

I made a tofu tikka masala thing for lunch *and* washed the dishes. Go me! Now if only I could write. RIDING NICK was 4000 words of silliness around this same time last year. FROSTBURN is taking significantly more effort, especially with the SAD and depression.

95% of authors are not making a living through book publishing. The public needs to understand this.

The SAD-powered extra-depressive thoughts are creeping up so I'm *triple-fisting* books today. A reread of Starling House by Alix E. Harrow, which I read for the first time two months ago, a reread of Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren, and Kelley Armstrong's Haunting of Paynes Hollow.

Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

Just occurred to me that you can call Sense8 a clusterfuck and it’s 100 percent accurate.

Okay. Done. I dropped from the current exorbitantly hiked plan down to one with a lower premium. And if Medicaid decides they like me, I'll deal with that when it happens...probably with the same amount of anxiety but also an amount of relief.
I just ran away from the health insurance website again. I need to get this over with. I have done this before. I know how to use a phone and call the help line. Why do I have to make everything difficult?

Most recently, that was @suleikhasnyder.bsky.social, btw.

It’s exactly what it says on the tin: a sizzly, sexy short set on the North Pole (ahem). I *loved* that Santa’s a dad-bod dude, and how the heroine is there to enjoy her damned self. And when you’re done you should pick up Prem Numbers.

People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!”

Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

For Americans interested in that gay hockey show that premieres this week, HBOMax is having their Black Friday sale. $2.99 a month for 12 months for the with-ads tier. Just putting that out there.

Anthropic pirated 15 of my works. Only two are lawsuit-eligible. One's in a multi-author anthology. The other's an out of print short, so its provenance is suspect. I live off my credit card and family help. I don't travel. I feel guilty buying food and clothes. But piracy fucks over Amazon, right?!

You're not really screwing over the publishers. They make up for your pirating by jacking up prices, paying authors less, cancelling that series you love because it didn't sell enough, etc. You're hurting authors & your fellow readers because you feel entitled & I, for one, fucking hate you for it.
I see it's the seasonal argument about why piracy to fuck over Amazon and publishers is okay while many authors live below the poverty line.

DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

answer is great but also it's telling that the guy who's been saying this since day 1 has to answer about whether he's an antisemite for 5 min every interview while the same people grin vacantly at the jewish space lasers lady and call her a brave warrior
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

I dropped dry dal on my floor. Then I spilled mustard seeds. Managed to make decent Instant Pot dal despite two “goddammit motherfucker!” moments in a row. Which reminds me that I exclaimed it in a bar bathroom on Friday when stalls were out of TP. A concerned lady offered up a “Jeez-o-Pete!” lol.

Somebody posted a screenshot of an excerpt in a reply, and so I blocked them. What part of an “I can’t un-see this” skeet makes you think I want to see it again?
Unforced error. Self-inflicted wound. I clicked on a thing and saw RFK Jr’s idea of romantic dirty talk. I knew that’s what it was going to be. So why did I do it? It’s like touching the hot stove when you’re told not to. 😭
