Hi! I’m a tall queer guy who writes (mostly) shorter queer things, though novels keep happening somehow. Mostly I tell tales that exist somewhere in the Venn of spec-fic, romance, and YA, but always queer.

I’m a huge fan of chosen families and insistent queer history.

It’s a big “book boyfriend” thing as well. They replace and erase the FMC so they can have whatever toxic asshole is the hottie du jour. Can’t do that in third because it’s so clearly not the reader that’s narrating. The actual FMC and her role in the story doesn’t matter.

The way that the book community has a self-insert problem is not talked about loudly enough. They are not reading books that can't relate to because "aka this book is too Black or Brown or LGBTQ+" and so I can't self-insert.

The bulk of it is self-directed, however (think "Choose Your Own Adventure" but with d20s)—nine parts and a conclusion—it’s just you can also add in some chats with some people who’ll "expand" that a bit if you’d like.

Yes! I’m pretty able-bodied other than "randomly go blind and sometimes fall down" thing, and I walk a Husky four times a day, so I’m pretty good with long walks, but holy crap the way people drive + how pedestrian infrastructure is *awful* = somewhere on the spectrum of unenjoyable to dangerous.

(Also, to be clear those walking times above are one-way. It’s twenty minutes to *get to the Grocery store* and then another twenty minutes to get back. Again, not the worst or anything, but it’s not a pleasant walk even in good weather thanks to it being major road adjacent; sucks in bad weather.)

Anyway. I know the very notion of fifteen minute communities (or whatever they’re called) has massive flaws, but man oh man do I wish zoning wasn’t actively hostile to the idea of cafes, grocery stores, and the like within suburb sprawls.

But no. Just drive there. And if you don’t drive… fuck you?

Ditto restaurants. A couple of café options, too (also a Tim Hortons and McDonalds).

It was awesome. I felt so freaking *useful*. I can’t drive (not a choice, a medical "not allowed") so my options are public transit or nothing. Saying, "I’ll go grab us dinner," was fucking great.

In summer? Can’t get anything that’ll spoil in the heat. In winter that’s not an issue, but the twenty minute walk becomes at least a half-hour (longer if there’s ice everywhere like there often is).

ANYway. Vacation house. I could walk to multiple grocery stores within ten minutes round trip.

(And this is when it’s running the full length of its often-truncated route. Super great.)

Twenty minutes to a grocery store doesn’t sound terrible (and it’s not)—but it’s walking along one major road or another, which isn’t pleasant. And I live in Ottawa, so… weather.

I still do it, but.

Thanks to what’s been done to OC Transpo, the bus I can walk to within five minutes? The options there are now laughable—it’s one bus that takes me… kind of nowhere useful? It used to take me to a mall. Now it takes me to another station where I can catch another bus to get to somewhere useful.

One of my favourite things about the vacation I just had with my husband was how we’d rented a house one street removed from the main street.

I could walk to functionally useful places.

Where we live, it’s about a twenty minute walk to the closest useful thing (a grocery store).

I worked retail, so that was never possible, but the difference between the store where I could walk to the store from home in about fifteen minutes to the store where—via bus—it took me over an hour and a half to get there and often longer to get back was soul-crushing.
