The way that the book community has a self-insert problem is not talked about loudly enough. They are not reading books that can't relate to because "aka this book is too Black or Brown or LGBTQ+" and so I can't self-insert.

and unfortunately you can't just unblock a single person, you have to unblock the entire list. i recently had to unsubscribe to several blocklists that had changed hands from someone i trusted to someone abusing the lists

I always count the legs. They are part of the spider! The quarter-sized ones are pretty common. I do, unfortunately, find way too many coaster-sized ones and I might have to light the house on fire

When you're describing a spider as "the size of a quarter," are you describing just its body, or the legs?

Because I envision just the body. A quarter-sized spider body is a big spider! If we're counting the legs, that is not nearly as dramatic.

My kid recently found one in her room that my spouse described as "the size of a puppy" though I suspect my penchant for hyperbole may have worn off on him. Otherwise I'm in a horror movie

This also indicates the essential dishonesty of saying “it’s just a tool.” A hammer is a tool. Nobody writes about the “inevitability” of hammers. Nobody has ever studied the harmful effects of hammers on learning and concluded that teachers must all hit their students with hammers “responsibly.”
