"Egyptian Lionel Richie" sounds like someone attempting a mashup of "All Night Long (All Night)" and "Computer Love (Sweet Dreams)"

"Today, there's a lot of bad movies, & the movie theaters are often in dead malls where all the other stores are closed, and you go to the food court, you're the only person in the food court, and it's very weird and alienating. And Dawn of the Dead-ish." thisispublicparking.com/posts/a-film...

George Miller presents the story of Group B rallying
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

It’s a small thing to note, but this thread exchange between Robert, a Life Without Buildings member, and Mulvey himself shows that there’s nothing wrong at all with acknowledging your past mistakes and aiming to do better. The realm is music criticism but it is never just that.

the highlight of my day so far has been watching Open Mike Eagle running down his list of his favorite producers and, in the process, reminding everyone that Busta Rhymes once rapped the line "Rock to the beat and then turn into a walrus"
the 50 best producers I could think of part 2 (finale)

One more MST3K post: a Letterboxd review in which I sum up my thoughts about a show I have loved for over 25 years letterboxd.com/aklingus/fil...
A ½ review of The Creeping Terror (1964)
There are folks out there that despise MST3K, one of my most cherished pieces of pop culture, because to them it degrades the folks that set out to make entertainment in good faith, affixes a smartass...

'The Harder They Come' was one of like four cassettes my folks played on road trips that never, ever got old. "Many Rivers to Cross" is one of the most beautiful things anyone has ever recorded.
Jimmy Cliff, Jamaican reggae singer, actor and cultural icon, dies aged 81

I think everyone's got one of these, some thing that seems universally beloved that you just don't care about, and the struggle to articulate that without seeming like a killjoy asshole is one of the most powerful dilemmas in the Let People Enjoy Things debate
thinking on this more, there are definitely cultural phenomena that are irrelevant to me despite their being incredibly popular. In some ways this bothers me into wondering if it's the same kind of Too Online situation that makes people go off the political deep end, like flipping out over poptimism

HOW MY BRAIN WORKS: A LESSON/WARNING

1) discover that someone has modeled the Transfăgărășan, which Top Gear called "the best driving road in the world," for Assetto Corsa

2) look up the history of the Transfăgărășan and discover that its route passes the old castle of Vlad the Impaler

I regret to inform you all that I am back on my Assetto Corsa bullshit, which means that in the process of looking for addon circuits I am once again compelled to marvel at the existence of this Norwegian racetrack that can run 24-hour endurance races in the summer without needing lights
Arctic Circle Raceway
The world's most northerly circuit, as its name implies, nestles close to the Arctic Circle in Norway. With full amenities, the circuit is also the longest in Norway.

not to pile on that Sisario quote but it is worth noting that for whatever reason I was a lot less bothered as a teen by boomers constantly telling me the Beatles were great than I was when my same-age peers tried (and still try) to do the same for Oasis
November 23, 2025 at 5:09 PM
funny enough I think this feeling actually did apply to me in my (early '90s) teen years towards Elvis, and considering the way he was covered and portrayed by pop culture back then, Beatle Reverence felt perfectly reasonable and cool by comparison
The Beatles’ CD reissues came out in 1987 and, for me, they did help distract from hair metal & late 80s pop, as did noise rock & industrial. But that was me. Ben Sisario did mention he was a rock snob, so different teens will have been snobbish in different ways. I met anti-Beatles snobs then too.
As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. Your enemy, if you absolutely needed one, was hair metal. GTFO here with this.
