1997 SEGA Pinball Starship Troopers pinball machine with a Color DMD.

The game is pretty uncommon to see on location. No official production numbers exist but I’ve seen estimates of 1,500 units online.

at this point I lack the temerity for hard psychedelics, so if this doesn’t fix or at least defrag me I’m out of ideas

Rescue on Fractalus! - The Cane and Rinse videogame podcast
One of the first games out of Lucasfilm's freshly-formed games studio, Rescue on Fractalus! was - if nothing else - a technical tour de force in its day.

"is this the game you want to be playing?" is the perfect question to ask yourself. holy shit thank you for putting this into my brain, excellent episode
I needed to start the new year with this conversation with the remarkable philosopher C. Thi Nguyen (@add-hawk.bsky.social) about scoring systems; outsourcing values; and the game that you — and me — shouldn't be playing: youtu.be/7AdbePyGS2M?...

RIP Loren Carpenter (1947-2025), who I just learned passed away on December 21 at the age of 78. He worked for the Lucasfilm Computer Graphics Division (where he helped create the Genesis effect for Star Trek 2, and Rescue on Fractalus!). He co-created RenderMan and was chief scientist of Pixar. 🤯

I am organizing my bookshelves right now and, given my demographic life expectancy, there’s a pretty good argument against me ever needing to acquire another book again
I think a big issue with content slop evolving in general is that I am already in a place where I’m not going to get caught up with every game in my Steam library and every movie and tv show I have on various watch later lists. Like who the fuck is going to pay real life money for an AI movie

This is a very good statement by TNN.
We have published the following update to our article following an email response from the New York Times.

Trans News Network has a policy against platforming bigotry. As such, we have declined to publish the Times' statement which included blatant transphobia.

Day 5
Donner Party - Donner Party (1988)

This indie/post punk album is so rare that the person who submitted it (thanks again @jessefuchs.bsky.social) sent me a dropbox with all the tracks on it. And what a treat!

Wonderfully ahead of its time, jangly, funny, dark.

Loved it

It’s like, people with schizophrenia become fixated on a tv show or celebrity or, you know, whatever, because they become convinced that someone is trying to communicate with them. Now we have a computer program that says “I am trying to communicate with you, Colin!”

I also think this is very hard to address without totally nerfing them because these very same people happen to be extremely talented at shaping the LLM output into whatever they want to believe the computer is telling them.

I don’t think that ChatGPT is turning people into murderers or inducing psychosis per se but I do think that LLMs have straightforward non-mystical properties which make them very attractive and potentially dangerous in some ways for people with obsessive or psychotic tendencies.

luckily, our country has a great track record when it comes to regulating arguably-more-harmful-than-useful devices that regularly seem to induce psychosis in their users, so all 50 states will surely introduce some sort of LLM-usage licensing requirement by, I dunno, 2080
