"After that we had the worst time of all. If it hadn't been for Bluebell's jokes and chatter we'd have stopped running for certain."

Stories and art are important. Especially now. To be able to scrape up enough of whatever it takes to put light and beauty out into this world is a powerful thing.

We have a house in our neighborhood that gives those! They're the best, they also hand out comics!

Day 10: Fire!

There's an opossum, got my vote! (And my follow)

That's a crazy "limit." My kid just likes opening the packs and collecting the characters more than anything else.

I sure love explaining why there are never any cards bc greedy people keep hoarding them. 😮‍💨
surlyqueen.bsky.social
Thank you! That's how I am when I've been interested in stuff like that. I know it's turned into a money-making collector's market, but these cards are supposed to be a game for children.
surlyqueen.bsky.social
That sounds absolutely amazing!
surlyqueen.bsky.social
I'm so sick of scalpers. My kid would also like some cards sometimes, please. 😒

Day 9: Crystal

Idk why, I just really like the idea of ghosts sleeping in crystals.

It's been awhile since I picked up my brush, I feel a little rusty 😅

But it'll always be my favorite.
surlyqueen.bsky.social
It is totally real 🤣

You, too, can smell like a cartoonist for a mere $150!

Day 8: "Bees."

Heh. Boo-bees.

#Inktober #Inktober2025 #SheetGhost
A sheet ghost wearing a witch hat holding a small jar of honey and one of those honey dipper things. The witch hat has a transparent veil. They are next to a traditional staw beehive sitting on a stump. Sheet ghost bees hover around the scene.

Day 7 of #Inktober, with the prompt "spell book."

#Inktober2025 #SheetGhost
A black and white illustration featuring a sheet ghost wearing a witch hat. They are casting a spell from a large book. Magic comets and sparkles fly out of the book.

I wasn't familiar, but after looking them up I can kinda see it!

Actually, who am I kidding, I should make that mug a reality, bc I absolutely still want it.
surlyqueen.bsky.social
Explain your username:

My friends and I were pretty obsessed with Suzy Eddie Izzard's "Dressed To Kill" special in college and I used to want a mug that said "Fuck off, I'm the queen!"

I drew a prototype with me as a stick figure with a crown and made it my whole personality 🤣

Explain your user name:

Goblin Hill is a place in my mind that is a hilltop prairie refuge, a long low rambling house as bucolic as it is sinister, as embracing as it is warding, as calm as it is filled with life. I hope to build it for real one day.

And I'm from up that hill!
kurtbusiek.bsky.social
Explain your user name:

My father's last name is Busiek, and so the whole family just kinda used it too, and he and my mom named me Kurt, so that differentiated me from the seven other Busieks in the house.

And it stuck.

100%

My husband spends all day reading for work, and the last thing he wants to do is read more when he comes home.

I still read a lot when I was still working full time, but I was also working at a bookstore. So technically I was still "reading for work" but we got to read what we wanted.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
