Look I know that “diversity is our strength” is cringe but: diversity is our strength. People who come from distinct cultural practices actively serving in community with one another. What a blessing to live in a world where that happens.
The thing about all these people they hate — the Somalis, the Haitians — are some of the most generous people you’ve ever met. Whose cultures are predicated on hospitality, whose kindness is entirely unmatched.

My mom just noted that ICE is rapidly escalating their violence and I said to her what I will say to you which is that they are doubling down because this tactic is all they have. They are wildly unpopular, they have no real plan to offer people, all they can do is try to bully us into submission.

What civil-military scholars of the U.S. should note is that ICE is becoming a threat to the institutional prerogatives of the National Guard, if not the regular military, in terms of both budgets and responsibilities.
