GOD, yes exactly!! I saw one politician say "We should abolish ICE because people want immigration enforcement that focuses on criminals" and its like no, actually what I want is an end to immigration enforcement generally

Yes, that's my position too.

"To truly stop the damage [that ICE is doing] requires going further – it means eradicating the security logic that ever made people think that arming a secret police on an ethnic cleansing mission could ever make them safe." A must-read from @hebagowayed.bsky.social & @victorerikray.bsky.social

In the first of what's likely to be many collaborations with @hebagowayed.bsky.social (and my @us.theguardian.com debut) we argue that abolishing ICE would be a good start.

"From the start, ICE has been a racial project, with its armed operatives targeting Black and brown people. Its categorical mission and lack of oversight are reminiscent of slave patrols tasked with hunting down fugitives."

Abolish ICE.

"We need to move away from a system predicated on violence in favor of one that centers people's humanity. We need to ensure that every human in the [US] facing a legal process – including deportation – has access to a lawyer ... And we need to divest from the logic that violence makes us safer."

This David French article shows the analytic peril of ignoring the way normal policing and repression work in communities of color. The so-called "dual state" he's highlighting (laws applied unequally, non-compliance met with violence) is *exactly* what Black Lives Matter was protesting.

“Abolish ICE” isn’t radical, it doesn’t go far enough.

Latest in @theguardian.com written with my friend @victorerikray.bsky.social.

Yes but he responds to Trump with tweets in all capital letters. This is the leader we need!
I put myself through the entire interview. Trust me when I tell you that Gavin "dank memes" Newsom agrees with him on EVERYTHING. I literally says "I agree with you" on EVERYTHING. Ben "extremely unpopular even with MAGA" Shapiro gets very combative with him and Gavin capitulates EVERY time.
Ben Shapiro: "Israel did not commit a genocide in Gaza"
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."

I was speaking to a lawyer & admin are actively trying to send African Asylum seekers — specifically asylum— to Uganda to be processed.

Like the levels of violation of law & the racism is out of this world. People who escaped persecution, war, in some cases enslavement.

„Since the Gaza ceasefire was announced, 100 days ago, on 8 October, Israel's military attacks continue. Over 440 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed. Over 2,500 residential buildings have been destroyed, leaving people forced into displacement. Severe restrictions on aid inflows persist.“
🚨Despite the first phase of a fragile ceasefire being in place, people in Gaza are still being deliberately deprived of water. We must be allowed to respond at scale. Read more: bit.ly/4pJkfks

Mubashir and his family came to the United States as refugees from Ethiopia when he was a child, and they all became naturalized citizens in 2019.

Despite being a U.S. citizen, Mubashir was targeted by ICE, assaulted, and detained. Listen to his story:

See I think it’s great that Gavin Newsom did a podcast with Ben Shapiro.

It’s good to signal early that Newsom has awful political instincts and doesn’t have the juice.
