Re-learning from Auntie Audre and working to focus my rage with precision.
left side has a pic of audre lorde-black black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet, with hands by her face. right side white text on black background that says, "Women of Color in America have grown up within a symphony of anger at being silenced at being unchosen, at knowing that when we survive, it is in spite of a world that takes for granted our lack of humanness, and which hates our very existence outside of its service. And I say symphony rather than cacophony because we have had to learn to orchestrate those furies so that they do not tear us apart. We have had to learn to move through them and use them for strength and force and insight within our daily lives. Those of us who did not learn this difficult lesson did not survive. And part of my anger is always libation for my fallen sisters." left side: white text on black background, "Every woman has a well-stocked arsenal of anger potentially useful against those oppressions, personal and institutional, which brought that anger into being. Focused with precision it can become a powerful source of energy serving progress and change. And when I speak of change, I do not mean a simple switch of positions or a temporary lessening of tensions, nor the ability to smile or feel good. I am speaking of a basic and radical alteration in those assumptions underlining our lives. "

Black families tend to have strong preferences against nursing homes, usually driven by concerns of inadequate care. Seeing that Black nursing home patients have significantly worse outcomes, and that they are driven by *within-nursing home* differences in care, confirms this suspicion.

Nursing home value-added for black patients is 30 percent lower than for white patients, with most of the gap reflecting differences within, rather than across, nursing homes, from Liran Einav, Amy Finkelstein, @nealemahoney.bsky.social, and James C. Okun www.nber.org/papers/w34324

If you’re in Chicago —

One way to help is support these small Latino businesses.

Many communities are experiencing massive slowdowns because people are scared to leave their houses, and so people aren’t shopping, eating out, going to the carnecerias and panaderias.

Support our small businesses.

The state could have backed him but instead they demonstrated for the thousandth time that there is no level of respectability that will prevent white people from serving you up on a platter in order to appease powerful racists.

It was a common practice post-Reconstruction to refuse to seat politicians elected by newly enfranchised Black men, especially on the local level. White ex-Confederates were MORE upset about having local Black officials because, as they would say, those people actually impacted the daily life.

This regime hates Black people. They won't employ us-no matter our expertise because we don't have the credential of whiteness. They see us as criminal. “They’re not going to be good in 10 years, in five years, in 20 years, in two years they’re going to be criminals. They were born to be criminals”

When I see this, I wonder if people realize that Jim Crow racism in the American south was a type home-grown fascism. It was not (just) a superficially genteel system of social deference. Refusing to defer was often met with incredible violence designed to terrorize the entire Black community.

So what’s happening is twofold: 1) Insurance companies are raising rates across the board. 2) Pandemic-era subsidies for ACA are expiring and GOP has refused to renew them. So Dems shutdown the government. Until they expire (end of year) or are renewed, consumers don’t know what insurance will cost.
States stand ready to respond
With open enrollment just a few weeks away
— Nov. 1 everywhere except Idaho where it's Oct. 15 — health insurers have locked in their rates for 2026. But Godfread explains there's still an opportunity to give consumers the subsidized rates it Congress acts quickly.
"Most states, if not all states, had their [insurance] carriers file two sets of rates — one with subsidies, one without," he says.
"And so if they do a clean extension of these subsidies, I think most states will be ready to go on that."
The key, again, is getting it done before open enrollment begins, he says, so that consumers see a rate they can afford when they log in to shop for a plan. "I don't see consumers taking multiple bites of this apple."

ACA open enrollment starts Nov. 1. Rates should have been published in August. Mike Johnson hopes you don’t know that. But my mom is an independent insurance agent. Has been for 20+ years. So she does know that.

It's why color-evasive is so much more accurate. They evade explicit discussions of race in order to hoard power while using whiteness as the main credential for positions they are completely unqualified for.

So yesterday a reporter asked Donald Trump about the writ of habeas corpus, and he had no idea what it was.

"I don't know," he said. "I'd rather leave that to Kristi."

Well, It turns out Sen. Hassan asked Kristi Noem about it in May, and this was Noem's response:

Last night, I received notification of the 19th death of a detained person in ICE custody since Trump took office.

ICE is detaining people, mostly in private, for-profit prisons that put profit over health. And now they have furloughed the safety inspectors. This is unacceptable.
