Building organization entails attending not only to one's own base but to the broader organizational ecosystem as a whole.

• Who else is inhabiting the same ecosystem?
• What is each org's niche (role) within it?
• What essential niches are currently most undervalued (and thus most under-occupied)?
Marcelle Meyer—wow. This recording of Ravel's "Pavane pour une infante défunte" is a riveting experience of aurally holding contradiction: decorum contests despair; joy is breathed into the sadness. I somehow wasn't aware of her until tonight; now I'm hooked. youtu.be/lN4S9mFbCqc?si=q9iAREw8j0gS4Bx1

ICE’s actions tear families apart, intimidate communities, & undermine the conditions that make education, research, healthcare, & public trust possible.

We’re calling on scientists to join the general anti-ICE strike in Minnesota on January 23rd.

And also, those of us who are disabled/chronically ill in other ways cant risk covid infection compounding it, so we’re less able to contribute in person. Which sucks because calling reps & writing emails alone is less satisfying emotionally than sitting around a table collaborating with people.
I think what progressives miss about mass disability from covid is it takes people out of the movement.

I canvassed, phone banked, called reps, volunteered at the polls, wrote letters, advocated locally, mentored.

Now, all I can do is… couch. From one stinking covid infxn.

King’s dream called for nothing less than a radical restructuring of our economic system from racial capitalism to democratic socialism.

Honoring him means standing with nurses on strike, ending ICE’s racist violence, and fighting for dignity for all of God’s children.

“But what deeply troubles me now is that for all the steps we've taken toward integration, I've come to believe that we are integrating into a burning house."

Dr. King said this famous quote on March 27th, 1968, mere days before his murder. But the context around the quote is interesting...

Chalk up another organizing win by the Association of Legal Advocates & Attorneys (@uaw.org Local 2325).

@bujnyc.bsky.social's workers have formed a ✨wall-to-wall✨ union that will cover around 90 people.

And kudos to management for recognizing the union voluntarily.
#ICYMI: Brooklyn-based civil legal services organization Build Up Justice NYC has agreed to voluntarily recognize the BUJ Staff Union, which announced their intent to join the ALAA, UAW Local 2325 on Mon, Jan 5th, 2026.

It's always great when you can vote for the DSA candidate on WFP's line. Our first chance to do so this year will be for Diana Moreno in AD-36, Zohran's old Assembly district.

(PS—at the moment, I think it's likely we'll see a NYC-DSA candidate on WFP's line in another 14–15 districts this cycle.)
🗳️ Early voting for the special election starts *this Saturday* Jan. 24, and runs until Feb. 1!

Election Day is Feb. 3, and remember: As the Democratic and @nywfp.bsky.social nominee, you'll see my name on two ballot lines.

CAMBA just announced plans to eliminate its entire IT department—including workers who have been on strike for over eight weeks. This is blatant retaliation against workers who organized for dignity, fair pay, and a voice on the job.

Join us TOMORROW at 1 PM ET at City Hall for an emergency rally!

Protecting people is my job. No one—not this administration, not ICE—will keep me from doing it.

I sat down with @newyorker.com to talk about why I’m not backing down in the face of political intimidation.

Great @inthesetimes.com piece by Rishi Awatramani. For me, this is its key lesson for this moment: "What Reconstruction proves is that broad fronts can deliver sweeping change—even against violent opposition—and that, unless racial divisions are faced, no front can withstand authoritarian backlash."
"The most effective strategy—deeply rooted in American history—is to build a broad front across class, sector and ideology to isolate and defeat authoritarian power."
The Popular Front Isn't Foreign—It's American
What Reconstruction, the New Deal and the Rainbow Coalition can teach us about building the broadest possible front to fight the authoritarian Right
