FYI: unlike other parties, @workingfamilies.org actually pushes people running for Congress to block more funding for ICE, not vote for it.

NY-06, the district for which @chuckforqueens.bsky.social is running, is a battleground for intra-Dem, Left vs Establishment politics.

How NY-06 is represented on ICE, capitalism, and especially Israel-Palestine will disproportionately affect the rest of the city. This is a race worth investing in.

Eric Adams under-budgeted NYC expenses by $3.8 billion for the current budget. In short, we're now facing about a $2B NYC gap for the current fiscal year.

A slide from the Office of the NYC Comptroller's budget briefing slide presentation yesterday (Fri, Jan 16, 2026) showing the office's position on city expenditures that have been chronically under-budgeted by the Eric Adams administration. A slide entitled "Chronic Underbudgeting of Expenses Distorts Budget" shows a table of categories of expenses that the office finds under-budgeted. These figures are shown in millions of dollars and by fiscal year, with projections for FY 2026 through FY 2029. In sum, the table shows a total chronic under-budgeting of about $3.8 billion dollars for FY 2026. More specifically, the following categories of city expenditures are found to be under-budgeted by several hundreds of millions of dollars annually: • Rental Assistance ($795M for FY 2026) • Overtime ($727M for FY 2026) • Shelter Capacity, Non-Asylum Seeker ($630M for FY 2026) • Public Assistance ($641M for FY 2026) • Contributions to MTA ($392M for FY 2026)

Volunteer canvassers for the 2026 Tax the Rich for Childcare campaign, organized jointly by NYC-DSA and Our Time. A group of 10 people—mostly young and WASP white, but also including individuals from three different generations and individuals of South Asian and Latine descent—pose outside for a group photo before heading off to canvass in a section of Forest Hills, Queens. They are dressed in clothing appropriate for a moderately cold winter day, and some are wearing bright-blue or bright-orange beanie hats from Zohran Mamdani's mayoral campaign. A majority of the people are also holding up the canvassing folders that show the field literature pieces by NYC-DSA and Our Time. One of the volunteers, who is quite conspicuous because he is the only one squatting and located at the front and center of the photo, has his coat open to reveal a shirt that shows "Our Time."

Having seen the NYC Left's struggle for power for over 20 yrs and participated in this struggle myself for the past 18, I know @nywfp.bsky.social's Ana María Archila is right: it took us 20+ years to get to this moment. Thanks to both today's comrades and to the prior ones who made today possible.

Repeating this point since nearly every week I still hear an otherwise well-informed comrade or journalist get this wrong:

Cuomo didn't lose to just 1 candidate in the primary; he likely lost to 3.

To form + execute sound strategy for future RCV races, more of us on the Left must grasp this fact.
A table from FairVote's report entitled "Ranked choice voting in New York City's 2025 primaries: an in-depth analysis," by Rachel Hutchinson and Adnaan Mohamud (December 17, 2025). The table constructs a head-to-head comparison between pairs of candidates in the 2025 Democratic primary for NYC mayor, using the information from the NYC Board of Elections' "Cast Vote Record." The table shows not only what most people know from mainstream news sources—i.e., that Zohran Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo 56.4% to 43.6%; the table also shows that, under the ranked-choice voting system under which the primary was held, Cuomo would have lost to two other candidates: • Brad Lander would have defeated Cuomo, 54.4% to 45.6%; and • Adrienne Adams would have defeated Cuomo, 50.3% to 49.7%.
