The great derangement syndrome. As the world blows past the 1.5 degree red line Trump and Carney talk about reviving Keystone XL.
It won't lower tariffs on wood, furniture, steel, auto.
But it will be a massive carbon bomb to a struggling planet.
My latest.

Let's not forget that Henry "carpet bombing is good, actually" Kissinger won a Nobel Peace Prize. For negotiating a ceasefire in Vietnam that *checks notes* did not happen. Take that for what it's worth.

Great letter in today's TC! "Dedicated emergency vehicle and transit lanes... allow first responders to travel quickly, and, because they can be also used by transit to bypass car traffic, they help make transit an attractive choice" www.timescolonist.com/opinion/lett... #yyj #bcpoli
Transportation options will help us get around

The Oct. 2 crash on the Trans-Canada Highway highlights a real problem in Greater Victoria.

Our region has been growing for years, and many people, particularly in suburban areas, use cars for most of their trips.

Accommodating the growth in vehicles is expensive (consider the $100 million spent on the McKenzie interchange, and the nearly $80 million spent on the Keating overpass).

These projects are also disruptive, causing years of traffic delays for modest improvements that are soon overwhelmed by increasing traffic.

Furthermore, they’re not even possible in areas, like the City of Victoria, that are already built out.

Another concern is that car and truck traffic can, and does, delay paramedics, police, and fire fighters from responding to emergencies.

To successfully address these concerns we need to look around the world for solutions that work.

One of those is dedicated emergency vehicle and transit lanes.

Dedicated lanes allow first responders to travel quickly, and, because they can be also used by transit to bypass car traffic, they help make transit an attractive choice for more people.

In already built-up areas, we need to look at implementing transit priority, busways, better sidewalks, and, yes, bike lanes so that people can choose how they want to get around and aren’t forced to use space inefficient cars and trucks for all local trips.

We’ll never widen our way out of traffic congestion, but we can give our citizens the power to choose from a wide range of transportation options.

JB Pritzker has also been emphatically placing Trump's mental decline squarely on the agenda. On our pod, he adds a new element: People around Trump are using his decline to manipulate him, so they're less likely to intervene. More Dems should say this. 1/

YVES ENGLER HASNT EVEN APPLIED TO RUN FOR NDP LEADERSHIP???????????

And he’s been accepting donations while implying he applied but hasn’t been approved yet???

Omg 🤦‍♀️

Article here: www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
TORONTO STAR article except reads:

“"It has recently come to my attention that Mr. Yves Engler has been sharing with the media that he has not yet been approved ... to stand as an official leadership candidate. I would like to clarify that we are not in receipt of an application from Mr. Engler, and as such he has no current standing within the leadership contest," chief electoral officer Éric Hébert-Daly said.”

Yves Engler is explicitly soliciting funds for his NDP leadership campaign citing Elections Canada rules yet includes an asterisk: "*donations are not tax deductible"

Why would funds for a leadership campaign collected under Elections Canada rules *not* be eligible for tax deductions?
Yvews Engler campaign website:

"Donate by Interac e-Transfer:

To donate through Interac, please make the donation through your financial institution to yvesenglerndp@gmail.com.

Important: In order for us to accept these funds as required by Elections Canada, you must also complete the form below (the maximum donation amount is $1,750):

* Donations are not tax-deductible."

The agent vs Agent concept is something I got from Sakej Ward (who I disagree with on some points, but this one is spot on). The important point is that you don't have to know which is which (and you often will never know) just know they both exist and avoid letting them get into positions of power

I frequently believe I live in a dream like this in Victoria BC. To still be in North America and have this kind of transportation freedom still feels wild to me.

A few months ago, a friend visited me in Utrecht. As we biked around to do daily errands, she kept saying, "This is like a dream. This is like a dream."

I do believe all cities the world over to soon come to their senses, limit car movement, and build a dream of safe, abundant streets for people.
