Bowker Creek is running a bit high at Haultain. Would be a great spot for a new / restored wetland to store water during extreme rainfall events (which are becoming more common due to fossil fuels like fracked gas). #yyj

On a short visit to downtown #VictoriaBC today, I saw three people riding mobility scooters on the protected bike and roll lanes. Only got photos of two. You don't have to ride a bicycle to use 'bike lanes'! #yyj #pwd #bcpoli

Also worth thinking about how Carlos and many other people use 'bike' lanes, despite not being able to ride a bicycle. Happening everywhere there are good bike & roll routes. More context: ecoplanning.ca/want-better-...

This is OK. But the answer to “We can’t all be expected to bike" needs to acknowledge that lots of people who don't ride bikes roll on bike & roll routes. #wheelchair #cycling

Connecting the dots: Floods, climate change and fossil fuel projects Photos of the recent flooding in B.C. and Washington state have filled my social media feed and newspaper pages. Scrolling through, I wonder what it will take to help citizens and our leaders connect the dots: climate change is the leading cause of extreme weather and excessive rainfall, fossil fuel extraction and burning causes climate change, it’s time to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Instead, we can expand our clean energy developments (hydro, solar, wind, geothermal). We can only control emissions in our own country, and it’s time Canada took bold steps to move away from fossil fuels and embrace clean, healthy alternative energy sources. Sadly folks on reddit r/Victoria are reporting that Bowker Creek flooded last night. The climate crisis, mainly caused by burning fossil fuels, is making damage like this much more frequent. #yyj #bcflood #bcstorm

Traffic rules The traffic rules for motorized mobility aids (MMAs) apply on public roads, private roads open to public vehicular traffic and on land occupied by shopping centres and other land where public traffic is allowed. With some exceptions, an individual using an MMA must follow the traffic rules that apply to: » pedestrians (in French only) when travelling on a sidewalk or when leaving the sidewalk to enter an intersection, » cyclists when riding in a cycle lane, on a roadway or shoulder. However, certain rules were adapted to take into account the characteristics specific to each type of MMA and to regulate their operation to ensure the safety of the MMA user and all other road users. The following sections present the rules to follow, according to the infrastructure used.

Yes. Car dependency is particularly unfree for non drivers. We can create choice for almost everyone, and it will even be better for people who often choose to drive.

Times Colonist letter. Why can’t they see the climate catastrophe? Congratulations to Steven Guilbeault on his principled resignation from the federal cabinet following the pipeline agreement between the government of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s administration. There’s really no choice, is there? While Justin Trudeau worked towards climate progress, Carney has capitulated to the oil industry with no consultation with the B.C. government or First Nations (or, obviously, environmental groups.) The film An Inconvenient Truth came out in 2006. Now, nearly 20 years later, Carney, Smith, Trump and many others act like these ever-worsening wildfires all around the world aren’t really happening. Keep trying to open the eyes of the blind. Louis Guilbault Victoria
