There's a local chain in Cville called Bodo's that makes it, and it's delicious. I got hooked in grad school. Mostly slightly sweet with just a touch of heat.

Stay safe. Good bet they’re armed if they’re out there poaching.

I was living in Tucson during the 2018-2019 shutdown. Decided to check out one of the side borders of East Saguaro National Park. There was a line of pickup trucks along the (cut) fence, filled with digging equipment.

And absolutely no one around or authorized to deal with the plant poachers.

A park employee, who spoke with SFGATE on the condition of anonymity to protect their job, said they know of only one wilderness ranger working the entire park. And technically, that person is not even a ranger, the employee said, but a volunteer.

Some evenings, Kyoshi (the dark one) insists on SINGING THE SONG OF HIS PEOPLE so I’ll let him in the linen closet. And since Molly sleeps during the day and our tiny emotional manipulator knows that, he and his brother get closet time.
Two cats curled up among towels in a wood-lined linen closet. On the left is a grey and black tabby with large white areas on muzzle, chest, and legs, looking relaxed. On the right is a tightly curled dark brown colorpoint gremlin glaring at me for disturbing his closet time.

Natchitoches is an excellent one, really!

Virginia has counties that work:

Henrico (hen-RYE-co) County
Botetourt (BOT-uh-TOT) County

This is the opposite scenario:

If you pronounce Versailles, Kentucky exactly as it is written—you’re a local.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Doing postdoc field work in southern Louisiana, I was never concerned about gators. But signs of a wild hog wallow put me on red alert.

The title and premise is cheesy, but there's some great video of the two-phase wind-up and pitch dispersal mechanism ferns use.

Missing a reagent today when my undergrads came in, so instead of the plan, I taught them how to do leaf peels to measure guard cells and also showed them how to use the EVOS fluorescence microscope.

And anyway, that's how my students learned that the annulus on fern spores is autofluorescent. 😁
Low quality image of a fern sorus (species unknown). The image is an overlay of a black and white brightfield image of the leaf lamina and bright green fluorescence within the sorus. The green straplike semicircles are part of the spore dispersal system that literally cocks and throws them like a baseball pitcher, and are autofluorescent due to presence of the polymer sporopollenin.

See? I'm taking this as a second.

All in favor?

All opposed?

Excellent. Motion carries!

Working on a bloödcheëp shirt. I'm proud of those letters.
A black tshirt design with a bald red cardinal in a circle surrounded by flames, with the word bloodcheep in red death metal style letters above it.

Saw this just now, and was curious if you had a take. Do you juvenile therapods would chew on their own tails? Would other dinosaurs?
