It does seem a huge oversight, especially given with a beautifully-written book it is. (I assume the original is also beuatiful, but creating that crisp, succinct yet imagistically rich writing in any language can't be easy.)

One of the recipes is simply called 'My Breakfast'. It's a boiled egg, five tablespoons of bran, a "live yoghurt" (Yoghurt, in fact - she capitalises the Y) and a cup of Ginseng tea. She lived to be 99 so we could probably all learn a few things.

Ate *two* home-cooked meals from this yesterday. At one point Barbara claims that chocolate "relieves high blood pressure", "has a toning effect on the kidneys" and should be eaten with ambergris by women who are "cold by nature".

Look sorry this one's beyond my abilities. An explosion of flowers provides the background for a sort of iced lemon shortbread tower, decorated with slivers of kiwi fruit, next to a plate of.... cherries under pastry with cream arranged like a fleur-de-lis? Two porcelain figurines of ladies in crinoline watch over it guardedly, and a small porcelain dog is sticking its arse high in the air, as if to happily break wind, but fortunately not in the direction of the food.

Pink crystals like standing stones in a druid circle looming menacingly over a dish that shows five strips of (uncooked?) chicken in some kind of rose-pink sauce. Pink flowers are balanced on the dishes rim.

Beneath this, the text: "PINK CHICKEN. Chicken with pink sauce, chicken in pink quartz, and the pink flush of your cheeks when he says 'I love you.'" Did i make him love me when I served him uncooked chicken, Barbara? Have you got love and food poisoning confused again?

Been drifting around Southwark and Lambeth again, and am intrigued by its different architectures. Where do I go to research this, e.g. when different housing developments began, their styles, what certain neighbourhoods looked like & when/why they changed? Archives? Old footage/photographs?

Can't remember the details, but after V was televised he got one of those right-wing "death of modern poetry" articles, as recently doled out on Len Pennie. They suggested he acquaint himself with real poetry like the Greek epics. He wrote back in his official position from the Classics Society. ❤️

Okay nobody cares but I've now had several dreams where I'm crawling up a stone staircase/underpass, dug into the side of a hill in an unnamed European city, and where I've either come from or am going to an abandoned, usually flooded, ground floor apartment. Soul! What are you trying to SAY?!

Took a break from The Guermantes Way to read Charlotte's Web last night, and you know what? I do think Proust could learn a few things from Charlotte. She wrote about 5 words on that web across the whole book, made her point, *and* effected social change.
