I sing in Too Much Joy and Wonderlick and work in tech (Rhapsody/Google Play/Freeform/Zedge). I tend to post about music, movies, and the death throes of democracy.

they are clearly trying to terrify everyone out of showing up to the No Kings protest and I simply do not think it is going to work

see you all there

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

The person who makes Connections is apparently a Big Star fan.

(By "that riff," I mean "Seven Nation Army," not "Blitzkrieg Bop." Not that you could sing it to "Blitzkrieg Bop" if you tried, which I just now have, and failed miserably.)

At Oakland Ballers games, when a player named Tyler Lozano comes up to bat, everybody chants, "Go Ty-ler Lo-zan-O" to the melody of that riff.

And now I sing that randomly to myself at least twice a day.

I hate when they take away things you were just starting to really enjoy, like your favorite TV show or democracy.

Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?

A new Noem video is being played at airports trashing Democrats.

Thanks! I wrote it cuz I felt it. And I've been married to the person who made me feel it for over 33 years, now.

I mean, for DECADES the conservative position was that trying to ensure U.S. minorities had equal rights was somehow favoring them.

But now there's one minority (conservative Christians) that is literally getting rights that the government is depriving other minorities of.
tbquirk.bsky.social
Related: it's kind of amazing that the Supreme Court seems to think protecting minority rights means states CAN'T outlaw non-medical treatments such as conversion therapy, but CAN outlaw genuine (and widely-supported-by-doctors) medical treatments for trans people.

Kind of funny (but not ha-ha funny) that we liberals thought we were so smart for telling conservatives who wanted to return to the "good old days" that they weren't all that good for everybody because there was segregation and kids died from measles and stuff.

Apparently they actually wanted both!

Just posting this. Everyone knows why.
Text of the fourth amendment “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

I honestly expected more of this from the beginning, but I'll take it any time. Trump-appointed judge declares hos actions unconstitutional.

Duh.

Gah. "Holding our right arms up" is what that was supposed to say.
tbquirk.bsky.social
Apparently at least 40% of our country defines "freedom" as being free from ever having to think/know/care about people or topics they do not wish to.

If you want to know many people pay attention to lyrics, there are currently 10 people in a crowd of maybe 10,000 holding our right for peace like Amar Bharati did, as Tweedy sings about in his song called "Amar Bharati."

So: .01%.

student: oh so that’s when the whole country realized they were living under fascism

teacher: haha what? oh no lol not at all. no.

This title card from Abel Gance's Napoleon describes most of my favorite people.
Beautiful, if amoral, she was a woman of easy manners, and a talented musician.

No, probably it just means I need to meditate soon.

Some people meditate. I drive across the country by myself every few years.
