It's the insincerity that infuriates me. I hate the idea that being deceitful is considered polite. I don't like to assume people are being insincere with me because I take people at face value but it's so annoying when the social niceties are completely empty and automatic. Just say what you mean!

Yeah I can see how it's tricky if some people have different preferences. I don't think I'd ever object to someone being direct but if they're sincerely interested in how my weekend was then I have no problem chatting about it (I had a chat like that at the start of a meeting today in fact).

Ok I've always wondered this - does this person ACTUALLY hope I had a good weekend?

Is it "we're gonna bug you now so I hope you're in a good mood"
Or is it "hey I just remembered you exist 'cause I need you something but I sincerely hope you're happy"
Or is it just an empty gesture for politeness?

I don't think most people understand that the games industry is run by people who do not care about games or the people who make them.

They care about money. They intentionally create many risky endeavors hoping one will hit large. The rest of the teams and people they don't care about.

I spent the last 2 days of last week stressing, completely unable to start my assigned 2 day task

Today we had a catch up meeting where I had to report progress and in the 10 minutes between the start of the meeting and my turn to report I managed to get 90% of the task done
